We are pleased to share that Amynta Arshad presented at ENDO 2026, Chicago on 13th June.

📌 “Postgraduate Educational Methods in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”

🔍 This work evaluates the educational approaches used in postgraduate training in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism, examining:
• Teaching methods
• Learning modalities
• Assessment strategies
• Educational outcomes

💡 The findings highlight current trends in specialist endocrine education and identify important gaps in the evidence base, providing insights that may help inform the development of more effective and evidence-based postgraduate training programmes.

👏 Congratulations to Amynta on presenting this important work and contributing to the advancement of medical education in endocrinology.

The DEVI collaboration has arrived at the Midlands Diabetes Conference! 🎉

We’re proud to be showcasing a diverse portfolio of research focused on improving diabetes care, patient outcomes, and healthcare education.

Today, our team presented work on:

🔹 Kalyaani Persad presented research investigating ethnic differences in diabetic emergencies, including DKA, HHS, and severe hypoglycaemia, highlighting important disparities in presentation, management, and outcomes across diverse populations.

🔹 Samama Rafi presented research developing a prognostic model to predict 24-hour mortality following inpatient hypoglycaemia, identifying key predictors of early mortality to support earlier risk recognition.

🔹 Zaynah Nasar presented findings from a multicentre study on recurrent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), highlighting the role of treatment adherence, psychosocial complexity, and continuity of care in preventing avoidable admissions.

🔹 Amynta Arshad presented a systematic review and meta-analysis of postgraduate education in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism, showing that both virtual and face-to-face interventions significantly improve knowledge, with interactive, learner-centred approaches most effective.

From inpatient emergencies to medical education, this work reflects our commitment to advancing evidence-based diabetes care and improving outcomes for patients across diverse communities.

So proud of the team and all their hard work 💙

📖 New Editorial Published

We are pleased to announce the publication of our editorial 🎉:
“Menopause and PMOS: Redefining cardiometabolic risk across the lifespan.”

Link 🔗 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42259686/

The editorial explores the concept of PMOS as a distinct life-stage phenotype and discusses the need to move beyond a reproductive focus towards a broader understanding of long-term cardiometabolic, cardiovascular, and healthy ageing outcomes.

Key messages include:
✔️ Adopting a lifespan perspective
✔️ Improving phenotype-specific risk assessment
✔️ Developing integrated multidisciplinary care models
✔️ Expanding research beyond reproductive outcomes

We hope this work contributes to ongoing discussions regarding the long-term health implications of PCOS across the menopause transition and beyond.

Day 4 of the American Diabetes Association Conference 2026!

Last but not the least, Dr Punith Kempegowda presented our multicountry study examining variation in paediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) care across health systems in the USA, UK, India and Uzbekistan.

We found significant differences in monitoring practices, ICU admissions, complications, DKA duration and length of stay across countries.

Nearly half of DKA episodes occurred at diabetes diagnosis, highlighting the continued importance of early recognition and support for children and young people with diabetes.

Day 3 of the American Diabetes Association Conference 2026!

Dr Lucy Bomphrey presented our systematic review examining the precipitants, management and outcomes of adult diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Despite advances in diabetes care, DKA remains a significant cause of morbidity and hospital admission. Our review highlights the factors driving DKA presentations, variations in management strategies and the outcomes associated with this serious acute complication.

We have one more day of research to share from ADA 2026 and look forward to showcasing the final piece of work tomorrow.

Day 2 of the American Diabetes Association Conference 2026!

Vaynika Gupta, medical student at the University of Birmingham, presented our work on implementing closed-loop insulin delivery systems in inpatient care.

We found that closed-loop systems increased time in range by 24% which is equivalent to an additional 6 hours per day within target glucose range and reduced length of hospital stay by 1.6 days.

Our findings add to the growing evidence that diabetes technology can improve outcomes beyond the outpatient setting.

More research to follow over the coming days.
