Christmas Fun

Santa has been in for a visit to meet the children this week, they were all so happy to receive their Christmas gift. They chatted to Santa about their Christmas wish lists, which consisted of Mercury and other planets (Good luck with that one Santa) and Paw Patrol.

The Pre-school children were overjoyed with their books from Santa, they carried them around all day to keep them safe until they went home- with one little boy telling his Mum that he was so happy with his book he didn't want any more presents!

The children have enjoyed their Christmas party events with party games and balloons!

Christmas is a magical time in nurseries and we love seeing the children's faces light up at the magic of Santa

Christmas Fundraising Event

A huge Thank You to everyone who came along and/or donated to our Christmas Fundraising Charity event to support TOFS- a charity that helps support children without the ability to swallow. So far we have raised more than £1000 in total across our Hungry Caterpillars sites- with over £700 being raised at our main event on Wednesday.
We were overwhelmed by the generous donations from our families and has been great to support such a small charity, that is close to our hearts.
A big Thank you to Christian from Froggle Parties Ltd, for coming along to bring the fun and cheer to our event with his fabulous entertainment

Superstar Awards 2022

So, this years Superstar Awards Day was a huge success for Team Wycombe. This has been by far our most successful year to date and we could not be any more proud of the individual and team effort that everyone in our nursery team has made for the whole of 2022.
All nominees were shortlisted and the Winner and Highly Commended awards were chosen by the Senior Leadership Team.

We Love The Outdoors

Here at nursery we try to show the children a love and respect for the outdoors. We make sure that our staff focus on all areas of development during outdoor play- Physical Development such as gross motor skills like riding a bike or fine motor skills such as using their fingers or tools. Personal, Social and Emotional Development by sharing resources with their friends, learning how to take turns and help each other. There are always opportunities to extend a child's speech and language through learning opportunities, here relating to nursery rhymes using the farm animals to sing 'Old McDonald had a Farm'

We encourage the children to enjoy the outdoors come rain or shine, as we understand the benefits of outdoor play & fresh air throughout the day

Water Week in Butterflies

As part of Butterflies Water week, we have had a special visit from Libby who is a Hydrologist and one of our mum's, who's children attend our setting. Libby came into explain the process of drinking water to our pre-school children.

They learnt about how water in High Wycombe doesn't come from the lakes and rivers but from the chalky hills surrounding us and that the water is absorbed through holes in the rocks.

Libby demonstrated how the water is drained through a variety of different sized sieves and passes through sand (demonstrated passing through a tea towel for the children)- this showed how the water became more clear and with less dirt, leaves etc.

Once drained, the water goes through a charcoal process to take away any discoloration due to dirt, leaves and moss etc. Chlorine is added to the water to kill bacteria and micro bugs, to make sure it is safe for us to drink.

Libby also explained that we drink the same water over and over again, as once it evaporates and falls back into the hills, the process starts all over again.

World Cup Fever

World Cup fever has arrived at our nursery. The children are exploring through their senses but with a football/world cup theme.

Finger play, Mark Making and Sticking & Gluing to help those early writing skills. The children are able to lead their own exploration and use their senses to find out about the world around them.

We wish the England Lions all the very best as they continue to make us all proud and work hard towards getting closer to the final of World Cup 2022.

This week is Nursery Rhymes Week

Chrysalis Children have been taking part in lots of different learning opportunities relating to nursery rhymes such a The Rainbow Song, Old MacDonald had a farm, 5 Little Ducks as well as a treasure hunt to find props to choose which songs to sing in the moment.

This has been a lovely way of bring nursery rhymes to life as well as to promote speech and language skills through play based experiences

What A Week!

This week children at our nursery have had lots of fun learning opportunities to take part in- from Children in Need sensory play to Road Safety Week sensory play and small world.
We also had a very special group of Performing Arts students come in to put on a special show of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' for our Pre-school children!!

One Can Trust Harvest Collection

Here at Hungry Caterpillars High Wycombe our parents have been donating to our One Can Trust collection. We have been overwhelmed by their generosity and One Can are so grateful for the support that this offers to those in need within our local community. We will continue to collect items to allow us to help those within our local community over the festive period and into the new year.

The children had a special visit from a volunteer from the One Can Trust who explained the importance of the charity and how they can help other people who live nearby.

Remembrance Day

Here at Hungry Caterpillars High Wycombe the children have been learning about Remembrance Day.
The Pre-school children have listened to stories about the children who were affected by World War 1 and made Poppies out of clay.
The Chrysalis and Caterpillars Children have been taking part in lots of sensory experiences using clay, paint, pasta and creating their own pictures in frames.

National Stress Awareness Day

Our staff have been treated to a bag of goodies for all their hard work over the past few months to help them unwind once they get home after a busy nursery day

I'm sure you understand how hard nursery practitioners work and we want our staff to feel valued and express our thanks in ways that help them feel appreciated

Thank you to Team Wycombe for all they do to support our children, families and each other
