At Total Tutoring, we want every child to experience success.
Success looks different for every child, but we believe it starts with confidence, strong foundations and a belief in their own abilities.
Every lesson is designed to build knowledge, develop resilience and encourage children to think independently. As children grow in confidence, they become more willing to tackle challenges, take risks in their learning and aim higher.
As a team of qualified teachers, we're passionate about creating a positive, supportive environment where children feel encouraged, challenged and proud of their progress.
Families often tell us that what makes Total Tutoring different is the balance between high-quality teaching and genuine care for every child who walks through our doors.
If you'd like to talk about where your child is currently and what the next steps might look like for them, we'd be happy to help.

If your child is moving into Year 5 this September and you're starting to think about the 11+, now is often the point where families begin looking at what support might be right for them.
Our Year 5 11+ Preparation Programme is designed to build skills gradually over the course of the year, helping children develop confidence, strong foundations and effective exam techniques without feeling overwhelmed.
Children attend weekly small-group sessions covering English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, with a maximum of four children in each group.
What matters most to us is helping children become confident learners, who are prepared to tackle challenges, think independently and believe in their own abilities.
Alongside weekly lessons, children receive structured homework, regular feedback, mock tests and ongoing support throughout the year.

The Buckinghamshire 11+ test dates are starting to get closer.
📅 Practice test: 8th September
📅 Main test: 10th September
At this stage, the focus is no longer just on covering content, but on how well children can apply what they know under pressure.
That includes:
• managing time effectively
• approaching questions methodically
• staying focused across the full paper
These are often the areas that make the biggest difference in the final months of preparation.
It’s also the point where smaller gaps can still be identified and worked on meaningfully, while there is time to build confidence and improve performance.
If you’re unsure what your child should be prioritising right now, our upcoming 11+ mock tests give children the opportunity to experience realistic exam conditions in a calm and supportive environment.
Following the mock, families will receive targeted feedback from our tutors, helping identify where support is likely to make the greatest difference before September.

A question I’m often asked at this stage in the year is what children should be doing over the summer - should we stop working towards the 11+ or keep going.
In most cases, the answer sits somewhere in the middle.
Children do need a break, they also benefit from maintaining some level of consistency, particularly if they are preparing for the 11+.
What we tend to see is that children who keep a light, structured rhythm over the summer return in September more focused and more confident in their ability.
It doesn’t need to be intensive, it needs to be purposeful and manageable.
Our summer sessions are designed with that in mind, giving children the chance to stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed.

When you teach real humans with real feelings 💚
I jumped on a Zoom call this week because I wanted to understand not just the academic side of things, but what might be happening inside a pupil’s head too.
This child has made incredible progress with our study coach Thomas, moving from near the bottom of the year group to 14th based on current Year 8 data.
A huge achievement and, on paper, something people would naturally celebrate.
But here’s the part that really mattered in our conversation, for this pupil, success doesn’t feel exciting, it feels heavy.
Pressure to stay there.
Pressure not to slip backwards.
Pressure to keep proving themselves.
Sometimes slower working, avoidance, procrastination or anxiety around schoolwork has very little to do with ability.
Sometimes it’s the emotional weight that comes with succeeding.
Teaching children, especially neurodivergent or highly sensitive children, is never just about delivering content but understanding the human underneath the grades.
I’m really proud of the progress Thomas has helped this pupil make, but I’m equally proud that we’re having the conversations that matter too.

If your child is in Year 4, this is the stage where preparation starts to take shape.
Not in a rushed or pressured way, but in a structured, consistent way that builds towards the 11+ over time.
Our September programme is designed to guide children through that process.
We focus on:
• developing strong reasoning and problem-solving
• strengthening core academic skills
• building confidence alongside challenge
• preparing children to handle exam conditions with clarity
Because our groups are small, we’re able to adapt sessions as children progress. They are supported where needed and stretched appropriately so they continue moving forward.
This is what allows children to build momentum across the year, rather than feeling like they are constantly catching up.
📌 We currently have around 10 spaces available for September starters.

If this is something you’re considering, it’s worth looking at sooner rather than later.

For us, a mock test is never just a “test”.
Our first round of mock tests have just taken place and sometimes, really important things come out of them.
It’s a moment to see how much progress has been made and how much more we can still support.
An opportunity to see how pupils performs under pressure and a chance for them to experience a formal exam environment and practise things like answering multiple choice questions.
⭐️ More than that, however, it’s a chance to reflect and ask: what more can we do to support this child’s experience of learning?
Today, I had the privilege of speaking at length with a mum about her lovely son. We talked about how much progress he’s making, despite finding focus difficult at times.
We spoke about neurodivergence, what we notice and support within our classrooms and how a diagnosis can sometimes help open doors to further support if families choose to explore that route.
When you choose Total Tutoring, you’re not just choosing an hour’s lesson each week, you’re choosing care, kindness and professionals who genuinely put your child at the heart of everything they do.
👉🏻 Our next Mock Test dates are the 13th and 14 June.

🎉 COMPETITION TIME 🎉
I’ve been tidying the office and discovered half a box of glue sticks hiding in the corner… all untouched and fully functional 😮✨
Now, from my years in the classroom, I know that by this point in the school year glue sticks are basically the educational equivalent of hen’s teeth. A fresh glue stick in June can genuinely revive even the most exhausted teacher 😂
So… I’m giving them away to a local teacher or school!

I’ll pull a name out of a hat 🎩 after half term and the lucky winner will receive enough glue sticks to hopefully get them through to July and keep those worksheets firmly attached to exercise books 📚😂
And while I’m here… 👀
Do you know a passionate teacher looking for a flexible part-time role where they can genuinely make a difference? We’re currently recruiting at Total Tutoring, so feel free to drop us a DM for a chat 😊

By this point in the year, preparation should begin to shift.
Children have spent time building the knowledge and reasoning skills they need. Now it becomes about applying those skills under the right conditions.
Mock tests are a key part of that process when they’re introduced at the right time.
They give children the experience of working under timed conditions, help them manage pressure, and highlight where marks are being lost, whether that’s timing, technique or understanding.
Just as importantly, they give you a clear, realistic picture of where your child is now and what to focus on next.
At Total Tutoring, our mock tests are timed carefully within the summer term so they’re useful, not discouraging.
📅 May and June mock sessions are now available
