Last week, Our students recently returned from a thought-provoking trip to the Ypres Battlefields.

Over the two days, they explored key historic sites including Lijssenthoek Cemetery, Tyne Cot, Ess*x Farm, and the Bayernwald trenches. They also attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, where our students had the honour of taking part in this daily act of remembrance.

Throughout the trip, they reflected on the stories of soldiers connected to our local community, laying poppies and paying their respects.
We are incredibly proud of how respectfully and thoughtfully they engaged with such an important part of history.

This week, were off timetable to consider their next step choices in our annual 'Into the Sixth Form' day.

Dressed in Sixth Form attire, the students kick-started the day by welcoming Caroline Sandeman-Allen from Lloyd’s of London, who spoke about choices in the context of her career. What followed was a series of A Level Taster sessions, including Photography, Sociology, Media Studies and much more.

The group wrapped up their day with a session from Emilia McCalley, who talked about how staying curious, exploring options and making choices based on strengths and passions can take you where you want to be.

It is these genuine interactions that support students to make clear and confident choices linked to future career paths. These opportunities also help our students understand that our decisions do not define us, we can pivot and change throughout our lives and careers.

🌱 Year 8 Royal Society Project Launch at Pipers Corner School 🌍

Yesterday our students kicked off their exciting Royal Society investigation: “Which vertical hydroponic systems most effectively increase the production of plant‑based foods that support a Planetary Health Diet?”

In Session 1, we were joined by Assoc. Prof. Jenny Carter and Dr Keren Papier, who explored how our food choices impact the environment and the benefits of adopting a Planetary Health Diet. Students also tasted different meals and investigated their carbon footprints and environmental impact, bringing the science of sustainable eating to life.

Session 2 brought science into action as students discovered hydroponics. Learning about how it works, why it’s sustainable, and the range of plant-based foods that can be grown using this innovative system. 💧🌿

The Royal Society

With only a few hours until the curtain rises on our opening night of our musical of The Little Mermaid Jr, we can't wait to invite you to our production of the much-loved Disney story.

Our students have done a great job in taking their audience to a magical world under the sea. We can't wait to see you there.

As part of the activities in , the group put together a collection of miniature Aboriginal-inspired didgeridoo sculptures.

Each piece began as a hand-rolled clay slab, carefully shaped into form before being intricately decorated using hand-carving techniques. Students drew inspiration from traditional Aboriginal patterns and symbols, thoughtfully incorporating these motifs into their designs to create meaningful surface textures.

Following the first kiln firing, the sculptures were brought to life with the application of underglaze velvets, adding rich, vibrant colour. Black iron oxide was then used to evoke the natural tones of wood, enhancing the authenticity of each piece. The works were finally fired to stoneware, ensuring durability and suitability for outdoor display.

It was great to see the students’ growing confidence with ceramics as well as their ability to experiment with materials and cultural references in a respectful and creative way. The artwork is currently being displayed between the Arts Centre Café and Rainbow Crossing on our school grounds.

When should we start talking about careers?

At Pipers this term, We have been working with our younger students to build up their passion in relation to possible future pathways. With focus on the build of transferable skills that contribute to different careers, it is these skills that keep so many choices open and accessible.

Our students were encouraged to be curious and develop their interviewing technique by hosting and questioning a panel of speakers. Our panel comprised a range of careers including a crypto lawyer, a recruitment business director, through to an archivist, a brewery owner, a technical theatre specialist and even a Disney parade character.

There is now the opportunity to further develop these skills, as we launch an ongoing project for Year 6 students to interview staff at Pipers on their varied career journeys on Pipers Radio.

This June, our Pipers community came together to celebrate the diversity of beliefs and perspectives that shape our School. From to , students explored faith through lessons, trips, guest speakers and interactive experiences.

Highlights included visiting Wycombe Mosque, designing global pilgrimages, exploring faith through music and storytelling, and hearing inspiring insights from speakers across a range of traditions. Our dedicated Prayer Space and assemblies encouraged reflection on shared values like respect, compassion and understanding.
