Castlefield School, High Wycombe

Year 3 went on a glorious adventure to the Roald Dahl Museum! Our mini-historians uncovered lots of secrets about the author's life and how his famous characters came to be.

We had a bit of everything weather-wise 🌤️☔, but a few clouds could not stop the fun.

Today Year 5 were lucky enough to have the Buckinghamshire Fire Service visit. The children were greeted by a fire engine arriving on the playground, which gave them a fantastic sense of scale. The aim of the workshop was to explore the features of a fire engine and learn about fire safety.

Unfortunately, the visit had to be cut short due to an emergency call-out on the M40. However, we are already arranging another visit so the children can complete their fire safety learning.

🎶 A Magical Morning of Music! 🥁
We had an incredible time celebrating Music Day today! The classrooms were filled with rhythm, but the highlight was undoubtedly our special assembly featuring a live performance of traditional Indian music.

Our students were absolutely mesmerized as our guest performer took us on a journey with the tabla. Watching the children sit in total awe as they discovered the intricate beats and storytelling power of these drums was a joy to see.

A Journey Through Time: Year 3 at the Natural History Museum! 🏛️

Year 3 had a fantastic visit to the Natural History Museum yesterday. The trip supported our current work in Geography and History, allowing the children to see dinosaur skeletons and a wide variety of fossils, rocks, and minerals up close.

The highlight for many was the earthquake simulator, where they could experience what it feels like when tectonic plates move. It was a great day of learning outside the classroom. 📸

🐊 Year 1 Takes a Walk on the Wild Side! 🐊

Our Year 1 explorers had an unforgettable day at Crocodiles of the World! As part of our current Science unit on Animal Classification, our students traded the classroom for the reptile house to see characteristics of mammals, reptiles, and more up close.

A huge thank you to our expert private tour guide who led us through the exhibits, sharing amazing facts about the different species. The absolute highlight of the day? Watching a live feeding session! It was incredible to see the power of these prehistoric creatures in action.

🐣 Egg-stra Special Easter Fun! 🐰
What a fantastic way to head into the holidays! Our Easter Egg Raffle was a huge success, and the excitement in the halls today was absolutely infectious. Seeing the smiles on the children's faces as they claimed their prizes was the perfect highlight to the end of the term.

A massive thank you goes out to our incredible staff and our wonderful PTA for supplying the eggs for the raffle.

As we close the school gates for the holidays, we want to wish all of our families a relaxing, peaceful, and happy Easter break. We can’t wait to see everyone back, refreshed and ready to learn!

Upper Phase were joined by Julian from the Space Store, Oxford. Julian has many years experience working in the space industry and came and shared his knowledge with the children in Years 4, 5 and 6. Julian shared many facts about space including what it is like on the International Space Station. Julian talked the children through the different types of space suit. Mr Oakley was very excited to try the space suit on!

Julian has very kindly offered the children of Castlefield School a free visit to the space store in Oxford, where the children would be allowed to try the astronaut VR experience for free. If parents wish to take up this offer, please visit Space Store in Oxford and quote Castlefield School in order to get the free experience. Please note this is something for families to do in their own time and not an activity run by the school.

The school has 2 Partnership Governor vacancies on its Governing Body.

💛 A Sea of Yellow for One Can Trust
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our 'Wear Something Yellow' day. The school was looking incredibly bright today, all in support of the One Can Trust.

Thank you to all our families for the donations received this morning. The level of support has been excellent, and it is clear how much our community cares about supporting this cause.

📖 World Book Day: PJs and Paperbacks
We had a great day celebrating World Book Day at Castlefield School. Instead of the usual costumes, students came in their pyjamas and brought along their favourite bedtime stories to share in class.
