Musical shows typically involve sight reading, working with click tracks and following a Musical Director. All of those skills working overtime on the Sound of Streisand Show.

As many of you students and parents know, we took time to develop the teaching room during lockdown and after a few successful recording projects, it is now a live facility for remote live drum recording.

Here is the first of what we hope will be lots of examples of the sort of sound we achieving for recording artists.

Drum lesson update:

Drum lessons are available both online, via, Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom and Face to face in the studio.

Lessons are going very well in this hybrid form with some students varying between face to face and online, and others choosing all face to face, or all online. Your choice! And you can always change, even at a moment's notice.

As we move into autumn The Studio lessons must remain as safe as possible for students, parents and me. Through the summer, since we reopened, we have operated in relative low volume using electronic drums, with windows open, sanitiser on arrival and teaching with good distance between me and students. Sadly this means parents cannot attend at present because of space. Thank you for understanding.

At present I plan to continue with face 2 face lessons, but I am watching the infection rate levels which are now over 400 per thousand in Bucks. They were down to 13 per thousand when I reopened back in June.

To keep as safe as possible, if there are any symptoms including sniffles and colds, please test before coming to a lesson. We can always jump online.

Any thoughts or questions please just give me a shout.

Take a song and try a few of the ideas or exercises you are working on and try and synch in with the track. Don't worry about playing the song, simply use the track as a musical metronome.

This is my attempt at Out for The Count by Darren Williams, The Ultimate Big Band. It is a fabulous resources created with first class skill. Please check out Darren, he is a wonderful player and his version is nigh on perfection. Please support this resource which he has very kindly and generously shared. Drummers, you get a chance to play with the best musicians with this resource and what is not to love in getting a chance to play with Laurence Cottle? Great fun! https://youtu.be/zIhD-mmSILU

I just wanted to provide a quick update on plans/thoughts for opening the studio to face to face lessons.

With schools opening this week and next, this will provide the biggest easing of the restrictions to manage the spread of Covid 19. It feels sensible, to take a short period, to review the impact of the opening of schools on the spread of Covid and, if reasonable, will look to open the studio on Monday the 5th October.

Lessons continue Online and will now be a permanent feature so students can opt to attend online or Face 2 face, providing a good increase in flexibility. This will allow students with sniffles and colds to switch their lessons online and, if attending becomes tricky, because of time, or travel, instead of missing a lesson we can simply jump online instead.

Most students have switched to online and those that are online have elected to remain so.

As the world has changed I hope to be able to keep pace with those changes and it looks like the studio will be an optional service moving forward. This is an exciting development and hopefully one that will be a more flexible service for students and parents.

I hope you are all well and staying safe.

Online lessons are going very well and I am grateful for your support and very much hope you are enjoying the lessons and different approaches. I have really enjoyed the change and they do say that change is as good as a rest. I feel invigorated by teaching differently and getting the chance to work with students as they work on their own gear. It has been a great opportunity to help enhance and maximise the effectiveness of my students' set up...and my own.

We start today with a new level of eased restrictions to the previous Stay at Home advice from HMGovernment which has changed to

Staying alert and safe (social distancing).

Despite the easing of restrictions I note that today's published Risk level is High.

I have decided that I cannot propose extending my service to opening up to face to face lessons in my studio just yet. All lessons remain Online via SKYPE and ZOOM.

School Lessons

Lessons at Juniper School and Misbourne are not available in school because of their own restrictions.

My Juniper students continue to have lessons online and the proposal from Misbourne School is for a review about a September start. I will be contacting my assigned Misbourne students over the next week or so as secondary schools evaluate their plans and that will be the same for Juniper.

I do not foresee opening the studio to face to face lessons whilst the Risk Level remains at 3 and above, so opening to visitors will remain under review. It is, of course, a changing picture and I will keep following the Public Health England Guidance so will continue to let you know the plans.

If you any questions, then please just message me, drop me an email at [email protected] text or call on 07976 208859.

Always happy to hear from you and look forward to seeing you this week online and all very soon.
