Since noticing a few posts previously from individuals advertising themselves as 'childminders' I thought it would be a good opportunity to give some information on what it means to be OFSTED registered and what this offers you as a family.

All OFSTED registered childminders (along with nurseries and pre-schools) are required to follow a specific legal framework, namely the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (2017). This document sets out:
* The legal welfare requirements that everyone registered to look after children must follow to keep your child safe and promote their welfare - this includes ensuring that all staff are suitable to work with children and hold an appropriate criminal records (DBS) check.
* The 7 areas of learning and development which guide professionals’
engagement with your child’s play and activities as they learn new skills and knowledge
* Assessments that will tell you about your child’s progress through the EYFS
* Expected levels that your child should reach at age 5, usually the end of the reception year.

There are many fantastic OFSTED registered childminders in the area who I am sure would all recommend one another. So please ensure when choosing one that you:
* Ask for recommendations.
* Visit as many as you can.
* Ask to see evidence of OFSTED registration, and check this with OFSTED or the Local Authority if you are still unsure.
