Our first class of the day at 10:30am–12pm is
Waving Cat with Clay – Maneki-Neko Magic!

Get hands-on and muddy in the best way as we sculpt our very own Japanese Waving Cat out of clay! 🐱✨
//
Working with clay is not only super fun, it’s also fantastic for developing fine motor skills, focus, and imagination. Kids get to squish, pinch, roll, and shape — then see their ideas come to life in 3D! There's nothing quite like the joy of holding something you’ve made with your own hands. 🎉

🇯🇵 Who is the Waving Cat?
The maneki-neko, or "beckoning cat," is a lucky charm in Japan thought to bring good fortune, happiness, and wealth.
🐾 The raised left paw is said to attract customers or friends, while the right paw invites money or success!
🐾 Some even believe the colour of the cat matters — white for happiness, gold for wealth, and black for protection.

Our fun second class on Tuesday 29th is Vincent Van Gogh's Almond Blossoms with Soft Pastels.
//
This gentle and expressive session is inspired by one of Vincent van Gogh’s most joyful and meaningful paintings — Almond Blossoms. 🌿🌸
//
We’ll be using soft pastels to explore the vivid colours, swirling lines, and bold shapes that Van Gogh is so loved for. Pastels are perfect for creating rich, velvety textures, soft blending, and expressive mark-making — just like Van Gogh’s brushstrokes!

💙 Why Almond Blossoms?
Van Gogh painted Almond Blossoms to celebrate the birth of his nephew. The flowering tree symbolised new life, hope, and resilience — and its delicate branches and blossoms make a perfect subject for young artists.

🖼️ Fun fact: Van Gogh was deeply influenced by Japanese art, especially woodblock prints — and you can really see that in the flattened perspective and flowing lines of this painting!

This session is a beautiful blend of art history, emotional expression, and hands-on creativity. Children will leave with their own stunning interpretation of this iconic work.

Step into the magical world of My Neighbour Totoro as we create whimsical illustrations using the dreamy combo of watercolour and gouache! 🌧️🌳

Watercolour gives us soft, transparent washes — ideal for misty forests and dreamy skies. Add gouache and suddenly bam! — vivid highlights, rich details, and depth leap off the page! This session is perfect for learning how to layer and mix different paints for stunning effects.

A huge well done to my brilliant Saturday morning students! 🎨✨ This week we explored one of Picasso’s Marie-Thérèse portraits using acrylics — and I couldn’t be prouder of what they achieved.
//
We tackled some tricky challenges: painting over a black ground in layers, using cocktail sticks to scratch in expressive texture for hair, and learning to pause and wait for areas to dry before building up the next stage. It was all about patience, control, and trusting the process — even when the instinct is to race ahead!

Seeing their paintings come together through careful, thoughtful stages was so rewarding. What a joy to teach such determined, creative young artists. 💫
