A group of our Year 10 students enjoyed an inspiring Industry Day at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, where they explored the huge range of careers available within the NHS.

Students met clinical and non‑clinical staff, discovering that the NHS offers far more than traditional medical roles, with over 350 career pathways to choose from. They took part in hands‑on activities led by specialist teams, including first aid, Therapy Services, Orthoptics, Theatre Nursing and General Nursing. Staff shared their career journeys and gave students the chance to try practical tasks linked to each profession.

The day was both educational and motivating, helping students build confidence, teamwork and communication skills while opening their eyes to new future possibilities.

A huge thank you to the team at Alder Hey for providing such a memorable and informative experience for our students.

Well done to our Year 12 Geography students who took part in an engaging virtual lecture led by disaster expert Professor Ilan Kelman from University College London.

The session explored how human actions and decision-making can transform hazards into disasters, providing valuable real-world context for their A-Level studies and encouraging critical thinking about global challenges.

This year, our Year 12 language students participated in the prestigious Anthea Bell Translation Competition, organised by University of Oxford.

This competition encourages students to develop their translation skills by working with authentic texts and carefully considering how meaning, style and nuance can be conveyed from one language to another.

James and Jemma represented the school in the competition. We are delighted to announce that James received a commendation from the judges. His name will be published on the competition website alongside other successful entrants from across the country.

Our Year 12 Spanish students enjoyed a fantastic visit to Lancaster University where they took part in an engaging workshop exploring Pan’s Labyrinth, one of their A Level cultural essays.

They also had the opportunity to tour the campus and gain an insight into university life, helping inspire their future aspirations and deepen their understanding of Spanish language, culture and film.

Today, Mr Lawes, Mrs Murphy-Worrell and Mr Coogan attended the official opening of the Crosby Wombles Burrow. It was fantastic to be joined by some of our talented pupils who helped paint the mural on the side of the Burrow, alongside the Mayor of Sefton, Jen Corcoran and even Tobermory the Womble!

It was a wonderful community event and we are proud to have played a part in bringing the new mural to life.

We’re excited to continue developing our relationship with the Wombles and look forward to our pupils taking part in litter picks over the coming weeks.
