This week, we are celebrating our staff 👏 starting with UEL’s All Staff Conference, Forward to 40: From Purpose to Progress, alongside the VC&P Excellence Awards.
The day opened with reflections from our Vice-Chancellor and President, Amanda Broderick, on UEL’s Strategic Vision 2028 and the Forward to 40 goals that are shaping the University’s next chapter, from global employability and cross-institutional impact to continued support for staff.
RDSBL colleagues joined the day to reflect on our growing mission and vision, connect with colleagues from across UEL, and take part in wellbeing activities, networking and professional photography sessions.
It was a valuable chance to pause, look ahead and recognise the people who continue to move the University forward through their work, ideas and commitment.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We keep learning, building and progressing together, . đź’™

Thank you to everyone who visited us at UEL Open Day this weekend! 👏
It was a pleasure to welcome prospective students to the Royal Docks School of Business and Law and give them the opportunity to meet our academics, explore our programmes, and learn more about student life at UEL.
A huge thank you to our academics who shared their expertise, answered questions, and helped future students gain a better understanding of the opportunities available at RDSBL.
We enjoyed meeting so many prospective students and their families, and we hope you left feeling inspired about the exciting journey ahead. We look forward to welcoming many of you to our community in the future.

RDSBL’s Senior Lecturer, Crispin Reed presented collaborative research at EURAM 2026, exploring worker wellbeing and productivity in the construction industry.
The paper, “Understanding the Complexities and Interconnectedness of Factors in Construction Site Wellbeing and Productivity”, was developed with RDSBL academics Alessandro Bigi and Professor Stephen Barber.
The research examines how wellbeing in construction is shaped by more than individual choices. Drawing on interviews across the sector, it explores the links between sleep, nutrition, workplace pressure, leadership, safety, productivity and wider organisational systems.
Reflecting on the experience, Crispin shared:
“One of the key messages from this research is that wellbeing is shaped not only by individual choices, but by the systems in which people work and that it has a direct impact on productivity. Presenting these findings at EURAM was an energising opportunity to share that perspective, receive valuable feedback, and contribute to wider discussions about how organisations can create environments that support both wellbeing and performance.”
Congratulations to Crispin, Alessandro and Stephen on sharing this important research with an international academic audience.

Imagine this being the view on your way to class. 🌇
For Hospitality, Tourism and Events students at UEL Docklands Campus, the learning doesn’t feel far away from the industries around them. With Canary Wharf, hotels, venues, travel links and London’s business landscape close by, the subject feels connected to real places, people and opportunities.
Hospitality Management graduate Georgina Simmons shared:
“I loved my time at UEL, the university promotes an inclusive environment with a wide range of opportunities for all. The lecturing is excellent, and the support offered helped me achieve a first.”
So if you are thinking about studying in this area, maybe start by looking at where it could take place.
