Junior Art Masterclass 🖍🌳

Pupils from years 6-9 took part in a Junior Art Masterclass. In the fair weather, pupils ventured into the school grounds to draw trees using Indian ink and sticks as drawing tools. Some pupils foraged for other drawing tools, such as leaves, seed pods, and pieces of bark, to create bold and dynamic mark-making in their drawings.

The pupils’ drawings were tall, aiming to capture the scale of the trees in the school grounds and a variety of confident marks were drawn to suggest the texture and detail. Pupils were inspired by the work of Van Gogh, Constable, Ky Lewis, Henry Moore and David Hockney.

Wishing the Girls' Rugby Team the best of luck tomorrow at Rosslyn Park! 🏉

Reflecting on their last match, it was an outstanding performance in the team’s first-ever rugby tournament. For many of the players, it was also their first competitive match, yet the dedication and teamwork on display were exceptional 💪

From Summer’s phenomenal tackling to Zara finishing as the team’s top try-scorer, every player contributed and put their training into action. Highlights included Gracie’s impressive goose steps, relentless scrums from the forwards, and swift sprints from the wingers. Team morale soared after a well-earned victory against Worth, securing promotion to the fourth-place playoffs. The team finished the tournament strongly, defeating Hurst 12–5 to claim fourth place overall. Special thanks go to Kitty and Anna, who stepped in as substitutes and played a vital role in supporting the team.

Good luck tomorrow, girls!

Recently, 12 of our Sixth Form pupils aspiring to careers in engineering were lucky enough to have a tour of the new STEM building led by the engineers working on the project. This was a fantastic opportunity to gain some insight into not only the specific engineering decisions and challenges of this build, but for pupils to ask questions about careers in engineering more generally and learn some of the realities of this career path 🏗⁉

We are excited to share our latest ISI Report Inspection Findings 🌟

Emanuel School met all inspection standards across every area of school life. The report paints a compelling picture of a school community defined by kindness and purpose, where pupils are confident, motivated, and deeply engaged in their learning.

Most notably, the inspectors identified the school’s Life Education programme as a significant strength - an accolade awarded in very few schools (fewer than 10% often quoted). Inspectors recognised that through this provision, "pupils develop levels of self-knowledge, self-confidence and empathy that go well beyond expectations for their age, alongside a mature understanding of how to care for their personal, social, physical and mental health."

International Women's Day 👭

Today, we would like to celebrate the Founder of Emanuel School, Lady Anne Dacre.

On 20th December 1594, the will of Lady Anne Dacre directed her executors to build “a meet and convenient house to be called Emanuel Hospital in Westminster for the relief of twenty aged people and for the bringing up of twenty children in virtue and good and laudable arts”. This original bequest of £300 was the foundation of an education for 10 boys and 10 girls. Emanuel has continued Lady Dacre’s vision with a co-educational school, now home to 555 boys and 555 girls.

Team of the Week 🌟
First ever boys hockey at Emanuel School! 🏑

We entered our U13 boys team comprising of year 6,7 & 8 into the London schools tier 2 competition.
Despite only playing at lunchtimes since the spring term the boys went and finished second which sees them advance to London finals next week! We scored 19 goals in 5 games and only narrowly missed out on top spot with a battling defeat to KCS.

Best of luck to the team next week!

Latin trip on film 📸
What to do on a phone-less trip... bring back the digital film cameras!

As a part of our Digital Wellbeing initiative - 'Disconnect to Reconnect' we encourage pupils and parents to avoid smartphones and , particularly in the lower school. At school, phones remain in lockers for the day and don't come on school trips 📵

What does this look like?
Last week, on the Year 8 Latin Trip to the Bay of Naples pupils had a digital detox from their phone. Instead they brought digital cameras to capture the moments, had their classic books on hand when venturing Pompei and entertained themselves with cards, drawing and games on planes and buses 🃏🎨

It was a great reminder for us and them of how refreshing it can be to disconnect with the virtual world and truly connect with their peers and studies 🌍📖👬

Success for the swim team!🏊

Last term, the junior swimming team of Year 6, 7 and 8 pupils competed in the London Independent Schools League finals after progressing through the earlier rounds last term. They delivered a strong performance against Trinity, Ibstock, Royal Russell and Thomas's Battersea, with several personal bests and multiple top-place finishes🥇🥈🥉

The highlight of the evening was the 16 x 25m squadron relay, where Emanuel secured victory by just 0.4 seconds in a thrilling finish, earning first place overall in the C final. A great result for the young team and our swimming programme.
