Which animal has the best grip? Are carnival games a scam? How do lava lamps work?

Innovation and intellect were out in full force last week as our Year 5 and 6 girls presented their projects at our annual STEM fair! This year’s theme ‘Curiosity: What’s Your Question?’ inspired a fascinating array of stalls, which our younger pupils and parents visited with much delight and plenty of questions of their own.

Congratulations to our over all winner Mattie, who’s Surfboard project blew our judges away! We are so proud of your blue ski - or perhaps blue sea - thinking🏄‍♀️⭐️

We’re cosying up this Christmas Eve and looking back on one of our favourite traditions – the annual Christmas Bazaar ✨

A firm fixture on the Glendower community calendar, this year’s Bazaar was a wonderful celebration of festive cheer. Huge thanks to our incredible GPTA for hosting such a successful event, raising vital funds for our school charities and bursary fund.

From wreath-making and charm bracelet design to gingerbread decorating and the bouncy castle, there was something for everyone – all enjoyed with a touch of champagne and cotton candy! Highlights included a festive performance from our Senior Choir, a raffle compere who had the grown-ups giggling, and plenty of excited girls sharing their Christmas wishes with Father Christmas🎅🏼🎁

With just three sleeps to go until the big day, we’re looking back at a jam-packed month of Christmas music and drama at Glendower! Swipe to see the girls in action➡️✨

Our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 girls took to the stage for a delightful suite of nativity plays, featuring clumsy angels, wriggly gifts, and even a penguin lost on his way to the North Pole. We were so proud of our youngest pupils for the confidence they showed in front of their grown-up audiences, and for the impressive way they embodied a whole host of traditional and not-so-traditional characters 🌟🐧🎅🏼

Meanwhile, our Year 2 to Year 4 girls put on a fun-filled Contemporary Carol Service, with audience favourites such as Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree getting the Glendower community well and truly into the festive spirit. Junior Choir wowed the crowd with their vocals, and many grown-ups were deeply touched by the girls’ sign-language performance of the poem My Gift to You 🫶🏼🎄

After a busy few months of 11+ preparation, our most senior girls brought the term to a poignant close with a Traditional Carol Service. Our string and orchestral ensemble welcomed parents and staff to the church with an elegant selection of music, before Ms Boyd opened proceedings with a moving reading of Maya Angelou’s poem Amazing Peace.

Throughout the service, our Year 6 girls took to the pulpit to share Bible readings from the Christmas story, while our Senior and Chamber Choirs impressed the congregation with rousing song. The service concluded with thoughtful prayers led by our Year 5 girls, sending the Glendower community home for Christmas with festive joy in their hearts 🎻❤️

🎭✨ Shining a spotlight on the incredible Musical Theatre talent at Glendower Prep this year!

From Year 3’s charming Silent Movies - a lesson in expression and humour without words - to Year 4’s vibrant musical retelling of The Jungle Book, complete with jazzy costume and song. Year 5 impressed with their thought-provoking Mystery Plays, diving into their history with enthusiasm, while Year 6 took us Under the Sea with a dazzling production of The Little Mermaid, showcasing music, movement, and a little magic. At Glendower we are known for our fantastic 11+ results, with our Year 6 girls handling their exams with determination, grace and good humour throughout the Autumn Term - but what do our girls get up to for the rest of Academic year? That’s where our unique Post 11+ Programme comes into play!✨

We are passionate about preparing our girls for life beyond Glendower, setting them up for success at senior school and as young women of the world. Our Spring and Summer curriculum is tailored around this, with an extensive programme of post 11+ trips, workshops and experiences that foster the girls independence, resilience, entrepreneurship and cultural appreciation! Swipe to see just a few of the activities that they took part in this year, from brave bushcraft challenges to code breaking, and a visit to the ‘magic kingdom’🧗🏽‍♀️🎆🐟

In 2025 our school turns 130 - and we’ve been celebrating in true Glendower style! From the moment our pupils returned in January, we’ve marked this milestone with joy, reflection, and plenty of community spirit. Swipe to see what we’ve been up to!✨

We kicked off with our Happy Birthday Glendower assembly, where Ms Boyd shared the extraordinary story of our founders, Edith Lloyd & Maud Cornwall, two visionary women who, in 1895, dared to give girls an academically ambitious education💜

In May, the Whitehouse buzzed with laughter and memories at our Alumni Drinks Reception , where former pupils and parents (including two gentlemen from our brief co-ed chapter in the 1940s) enjoyed music from our talented Prep musicians, nostalgic tours led by our brilliant Year 5s, and an inspiring speech from Ms Boyd on how our past continues to shape our future🍾

June saw our 130th Anniversary History Week transport us back to 1895! Years 1-4 braved the strict “Schoolmaster Smith” for a Victorian classroom experience complete with posture boards, finger stocks, and the revelation that a pound once held 240 pennies, not 100! Meanwhile, Years 5-6 visited the Ragged School Museum to discover the challenges of Victorian education - and were shocked to learn that girls were often not welcome in classrooms at all📚

To round off the week, our dining hall was transformed into a Victorian tea parlour, complete with gramophone music, coronation chicken sandwiches, and Victoria sponge. The girls dressed the part, playing at being Victorian ladies while enjoying delicious treats from our kitchen team👒🍰

We also enjoyed our very first Big Glendower Dog Walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, with over a hundred pupils, parents, and pups coming together in aid of our school charities. Laughter, sunshine, and tales from “Victorian school” filled the air!🐾

From our founders’ revolutionary vision to today’s changemakers, question-askers, and mould-breakers; here’s to 130 years of shaping the future one girl at a time🎉
