Dear safeguarders

Your thoughts please?

Does Vr have an important part to play in learning and development? Erm YES!

Virtual reality (VR) in safeguarding children and child protection training revolutionizes the experience by immersing professionals in realistic simulations of abuse assessments and the lived experiences of children. It enables professionals to experience situations from a child's perspective, fostering critical empathy and rapid behavior change safely.

Having experienced VR training recently, I have to say that the most valuable part of the learning journey was having an experienced and engaging facilitator to conduct a thought provoking and robust debrief session afterwards

AI can't replace that (for now!)

Top Tip: The Snapchat 'Snap Map' & My AI
Snapchat remains one of the most popular apps for children due to its 'disappearing' messages, but it contains two specific features that every parent should check today.

The Dangers:

The Snap Map: This feature allows friends to see your child's exact location on a map in real-time. If your child has 'friends' they only met online, those strangers can see exactly where they live or go to school.
My AI: Snapchat now includes a built-in AI chatbot. While it seems harmless, children often share private feelings or secrets with it. It can also provide inappropriate advice if not restricted.

The Action Step:

Ghost Mode: Open Snapchat, go to the Map, tap the Cog icon, and turn on 'Ghost Mode.' This hides their location from everyone.
Friend Check: Go to 'Settings' > 'Privacy Control' > 'See Me in Quick Add.' Turn this OFF. This prevents your child’s profile from being suggested to strangers.

Watch & Learn: This guide from Internet Matters shows you exactly how to lock down a Snapchat account in under 60 seconds: Link: How to set up Snapchat Privacy Settings
