Last week, Prep 6 had the privilege of visiting the wonderful restaurant Sorella, kindly organised and hosted by Ziggy’s parents. Prep 6 pupils enjoyed a delicious pasta lunch and a canapé making workshop. After four years of being able to enjoy this experience together, this was a particularly sentimental occasion, with it being their final year together as a class. To mark the occasion, Prep 6 parents were invited to taste the canapés which pupils had created. Parents were very impressed with the professional standard and there are some budding master chefs in the making!

Our Cygnets nursery class enjoyed meeting Floppy the rabbit on Friday! This special experience provided an exciting opportunity for the children to learn about animals in a real-life context, developing their curiosity about nature and animal care. The children were encouraged to ask questions and to engage in discussions, helping to develop their communication and language skills, as well as their confidence in sharing ideas and observations.

A big thank you to Olivia and her family for bringing Floppy to Parkgate 🐇

Prep 6 pupils performed their poignant Leavers’ Song during our Grand Assembly at Cadogan Hall. They sang an Olivia Dean medley with a twist - their own rendition had bespoke lyrics to convey their gratitude and share their memories from their time at Parkgate House. Very well done! 🎵🎶👏👏👏

Each year, we select a topic for our whole school Curriculum Focus.

This year, we are focusing on the theme: ‘Exploring South Africa: From Mountains to Mandela’.

Nursery, Reception and Pre-Prep pupils enjoyed exploring the geography of South Africa, along with animals and their adaptations and safari stories. 🐆🐘🦓

We were delighted to welcome Olympic gold medallist Rory Gibbs to Parkgate House this morning. Rory gave an inspiring talk about his journey to the pinnacle of rowing success, winning the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2022 and 2023 world championship titles in the British men’s eight 👏👏👏

Rory emphasised the importance of kindness, teamwork and confidence for success – three of our key Parkgate Virtues. Rory is also an author, having written a series of books to encourage children to develop these important values. Our Reception children enjoyed hearing the stories, and loved holding Rory’s Olympic gold medal! 🥇

A big thank you to Rory for such an inspiring morning.

There really is no place like home… but what an adventure it is getting there!

We enjoyed a wonderful Prep 3 and 4 production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ this afternoon. The performance was full of energy and enthusiasm, with pupils leading us on a magical journey as they brought this much-loved story to life. Every pupil worked tremendously hard learning lines, songs and dances, building scenery, and finding the confidence to stand up and shine. Many congratulations to all involved! 🎭🎵🎶👏👏👏

Huge congratulations to all Pre-Prep and Prep pupils who took part in this year’s Spelling Bee! We were incredibly impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, resilience and excellent spelling knowledge as they put their learning to the test.

This year’s competition placed a special focus on retrieval practice, with pupils revisiting and recalling spelling rules and words from across the entire academic year. From class rounds to exciting head-to-head finals, every participant should be proud of their efforts – very well done!

Prep 6 had a fantastic time taking part in two ceramics workshops with former Parkgate parent and ceramicist, Carolyn Tripp. Pupils created beautiful soft slab clay cylinders that can be used as vases, pencil pots or utensil holders. The children were completely absorbed in the process from start to finish, showing incredible focus, creativity and enthusiasm as they learnt about ceramics and developed new skills. Each pupil transformed a simple piece of clay into something entirely unique, using textures, patterns and colour to express their individual ideas. After decorating their creations with underglazes, the pieces were professionally fired and glazed, giving pupils a real insight into the journey from raw clay to finished ceramic.
