A field trip to remember!
To enhance learning Y11 students of orange tree school went on a geography field trip to study physical and human geography as part of their GCSE course. They went to Totteridge Fields and walked along Dollis Brook collecting primary data for river fieldwork project and ended walk by Dollis Valley Estate, where they investigated the results of Barnet Council’s urban regeneration project. Everyone involved had a fabulous time and enjoyed applying geographical skills in practise.
OTS wishes all Y11 Good luck for Monday's Geography GCSE Exam.

Being a new school, we get to celebrate many firsts at Orange Tree School, and this year we are celebrating our first term in the new building, our first Christmas, and our first guest speaker, to name but a few.

Ben Bailey Smith, otherwise known as Doc Brown, came into talk about his career and share advice with our students.

All our students and staff really enjoyed his fascinating talk, which was in turns inspirational and very entertaining. Our students said:

“It was a really interesting talk, Doc Brown was a really great speaker, and very cool guy.” , “I was really inspired, and he gave me a lot of useful advice.”

Other highlights of the day included making and exchanging Christmas jars, Christmas lunch, games, songs, yoga, a Christmas quiz against the teachers and other fun things.

It’s always a treat to be able to come together as a school this way, and serve as great reminders of what a wonderful community we have here.
You can read about the talk and the school on our website.
Wishing you all Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and a Happy New Year.

Earlier this week, Ellern Mede Orange Tree welcomed its first guests of the academic year - The Black Curriculum - who gave a powerful talk to our students and teachers about colonialism and its impact and relevance in modern day British Culture. Students discussed a wide variety of issues such as the African slave trade, the influence of social media on our beliefs and even the jewels from the Queen’s crown! Everybody left the talk having learnt something new and with a different perspective on modern society and the importance of learning about Black British History.

The speakers were accompanied by a visual note taker who beautifully documented the conversations in real time and the finished storyboard serves as a wonderful reminder of the talk.

This event kicked off the school's month long celebration of Black History and Diversity and marks the first of many events spread throughout October!

You can read more about the talk and the school on our website.

It is with heartfelt sadness and with the deepest respect that we mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and join the nation, the commonwealth, and the world in mourning the loss of Britain's longest serving monarch.

For the vast majority of us, we have only ever known life under her reign. It is truly impossible to understand the enormity of the cultural stability, comfort and reassurance that she brought to so many over the seven decades of her devoted service.

Many of the members of our school community have expressed a profound sense of emotion as we have collectively mourned her passing and celebrated the countless achievements of her life well lived.

We offer our condolences to King Charles and the Royal Family.

Our students have been learning about the life of the Queen in their history lessons and have prepared the collage below.
