Dear Friends,
We are delighted to let you know that Art Forest School will be returning with our popular ‘Sensory Sand Garden’ session I. Leytonstone!

Participants will be invited to make 'Sensory Sand Gardens', taking inspiration from Japanese Zen gardens and the 'Shadow Boxes' of the 20th Century American artist Joseph Cornell. The workshop will give participants an opportunity to make art in a way that appeals to their inbuilt inquisitiveness and creativity, and aims to have a calming effect by using natural sensory materials.
We design workshops so that children and young people with disabilities are given the opportunity to engage creatively with materials and process, and have their output given the same weight and attention as any other artwork. They have ranged from giant weaving to cave painting, from sand gardens to polaroid photography - all with the intention to be not only as accessible as possible, but as compelling and - crucially - as valued.
We look forward to seeing you again,
Best wishes,
Pippa and Lucy

Got a new webby for Art Forest School 😊 link in our bio ^^. It’s been lovely to sort through all the wonderful photos of the workshops so far - can’t believe how many we’ve done in the 3 years since we started. It’s been such a brilliant privilege to connect and share inspiration and creativity with everyone who has been part of it 🫶🏼🌱🪄🎨🥁
🙌🏼 especially to for awarding us their Grow Your Idea start-up initiative and where we’ve had some really precious creative times 🙌🏼

Artist inspiration for Sunday’s session:
Laura Ford
“Mummers” 2011
Laura Ford’s uncanny sculptures often feature child-like figures whose faces are obscured by costume.
Here, a group, covered in long rags, stand around a body lying on the ground. As viewers we aren’t quite sure what is happening, and the mystery of the costumes and the scene create a powerful sense of unease.
The title ‘Mummers’ refers folk players who traditionally perform at Halloween/Samhain

Half-term Halloween mischief BOOKING OPEN! QR or link in bio ⬆️⬆️. "Pippa and Lucy are excited to invite you back into the woods for an exciting dress up and forest school fun event to celebrate Samhain and Halloween. The Earth has turned so that the realm between the underworld and the overworld are equal; we are halfway between the autumn equinox and winter solstice so we will be entering the darker half of the year. We will create dress-up masks, play with magical potions and revel in music created to parade our creations. Inspired by artworks such as Laura Ford's uncanny costumed child figures, Monster Chetwynd's carnivalesque performance and sculpture and Rene Magritte's tickster paintings, we will create, laugh and seek for mushrooms and bugs who live in the dark.
We are aware of the associations with some darker costumes and ideas during this time of the year. This event will be suitable to children from 4 plus. We will not aim to scare but to enjoy the woods with a light hearted creative event.
