Czechoslovak WAAF Reen

🇨🇿 Královské slavnosti k oslavám 900 let města Jaroměř se velmi povedly. Byla to jedna z mála akcí, kde jsme se mohli potkat s rytíři i mušketýry a zažít průřez napříč celou historií.

Děkujeme všem návštěvníkům za jejich neutuchající zájem o ženské příběhy a osudy, které připomínáme, i když je venku 33° C 😅😄

Velké poděkování patří také organizátorům za pozvání. Těšíme se na další setkání a akce.

🇬🇧 The Royal Festivities celebrating the 900th anniversary of the town of Jaroměř were a great success. It was one of the few events where we had the opportunity to meet both knights and musketeers and experience a journey through history spanning many centuries.

We would like to thank all the visitors for their unwavering interest in the stories and lives of women that we strive to commemorate, even when the temperature outside reaches 33°C 😅😄

A special thank you also goes to the organizers for their invitation. We look forward to meeting again at future events and celebrations.

🇨🇿 Jak jste si užili slavnosti svobody 2026?

My jsme po dlouhé zimě jsme oprášily výstavku, osvěžily příběhy žen a hlavně přivítaly nové tváře.

Máme radost, že o WAAF s námi jezdí vyprávět stále více nových členek, a že se na „naše“ ženy nezapomíná.

Těšíme se v průběhu léta, že se uvidíme na spoustě akcí, třeba 20.6. v Jaroměři.

🇬🇧 How did you enjoy the 2026 Liberation Festival?

After a long winter, we dusted off our exhibition, refreshed the stories of the women, and most importantly welcomed new faces.

We’re happy to see more and more new members joining us to share the story of the WAAF, and that these “our” women are not being forgotten.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at many events throughout the summer, for example on June 20th in Jaroměř.

8)🇨🇿 Mary Griffiths (21letá Leading Aircraftwoman) z Cymneru poblíž Port Talbot je první členkou WAAF, která letěla jako součást letecké posádky se svým vrchním velitelem na frontu. Je palubní mechanik letounu náležejícího Sir Sholto Douglas, vrchnímu veliteli RAF Coastal Command.

Jako palubní mechanik je zodpovědná za vše na letadle kromě motorů. Když letoun plní důležité mise s vrchním velitelem, sedí na místě druhého pilota.

8)🇬🇧 21 years old Leading Aircraftwoman Mary Griffiths of Cymner, near Port Talbot, is the first W.A.A.F. to flay as a members of an air crew with her Commander-in-Chief to the front. She is flight mechanic of the aircraft belonging to Air Chief Marshal Sir Sholto Douglas, Chief of the R.A.F. Coastal command.

As flight mechanic she is responsible for everything about the aircraft except the engines. When the aircraft goes on important missions with the Commander-in-Chief, she sits in the second pilot’s seat.

7)🇬🇧 The photograph of three WAAFs who received awards that day for remaining at their posts even during heavy bombing (Left to right: Sergeant Joan Eugene Mortimer, Assistant Section Officer Elspeth Candlish-Henderson, Sergeant Helen Emily Turner) also served as inspiration for us.
