Here are five important terms every aspiring lawyer should know:
⚖️ Limitation - the legal time limit within which a claim must be brought, after which it is usually barred.
🤝 Pro Bono - work undertaken “for the public good”, where legal services are provided free of charge to those who cannot afford representation.
📝 Without Prejudice - statements made in a genuine attempt to settle a dispute, which generally cannot be used as evidence if the case proceeds to court.
📄 Pleadings - formal written documents setting out each party’s case, including the facts and legal basis of their claim or defence.
✅ Settlement - an agreement reached between parties to resolve a dispute without going to trial.
