📚In fact, in our ever-evolving academic landscape, postgraduate conferences have become a linchpin for progress, collaboration, and mutual learning.

Connecting Pieces Worldwide: The School of Advanced Study’s Postgraduate Conference ‘Fragments’ – Virtual Day 07/06/2023

Engage Globally, Learn Locally: The School of Advanced Study's Postgraduate Conference, "Fragments"

💫In the constantly evolving landscape of academic discourse, School of Advanced Study, University of London (SAS) stands out not just for its dedication to public engagement and bridging the gap between academia and society, but also for its truly international student body. This commitment is on full display at the upcoming Postgraduate Conference, "Fragments."

💥Our dedication to inclusivity and international collaboration culminates in the virtual day of our conference on June 15th. This event will feature five of our research students and recent alumni presenting their work, offering a variety of perspectives that embody the diverse range of research interests across our institutes. The opportunity to participate in this virtual environment not only broadens access but also fosters an inclusive space for academic discourse.

🌎 Cornelia Kaufmann, a distance learner at SAS, discusses this event at length: "Having a virtual conference day also helps attendees save money all around without having to sacrifice any of the opportunities an in-person conference provides. Academic conferences are notoriously expensive for speakers and participants alike. Add hotels, meals, and air fare to the cost of a conference ticket - especially during summer months and for conferences in big cities - being able to present your work can add up to several hundreds of pounds – which is why for distance learners, this virtual format of the conference is a golden opportunity."

⚡Fragments will provide an opportunity to network with fellow researchers and professionals from a range of disciplines, explore fresh perspectives on a shared theme, and gain insight from the diverse discussions that are sure to be inspired.

🤔The best part? Attendance is free for both days of our conference, meaning that no SAS student will need to pay out of pocket to gain that vital conference presenting experience.

🎟️Register today and join us on June 15th for an intellectually stimulating day featuring our fellow research students, a virtual roundtable on Mapping the Arts and Humanities, and a Generative AI Tools workshop. Sharing Truths with Karimah Hassan 19/04/2023

⭐ We started our Art Series with one purpose in mind and one purpose in mind ONLY: spamming your feeds with good and worthwhile art 👹 No, but seriously, as postgraduate students we can get too bogged down by our own studies, we often forget what is out there.

🤫 I mean, we even forget to drink water and eat sometimes. That's how into our research we are. BUT you don't need us to tell you about Aristotle's golden mean now, do you? We believe in embracing sustainable practices when it comes to our work-life balance, which is why we have sat down with the amazing artist and writer Karimah Hassan who talks to us about the importance of art and its democratization, creative pursuit, returning to nature, thinking for one's self, and how to tune out white noise.

✨ Karimah Hassan was born in Wales with Yemeni and Bangladeshi heritage. An Artist in Residence at Sarabande Foundation, which is Lee Alexander McQueen’s legacy, Hassan’s clients have included Wolf & Badger, the Barbican, Ted Baker, Arts Council England, the Highline New York, and Toronto Arts Council to name a few. She is a polymath – in so many ways, she defies categorization.

📝 Hassan's story is an inspiration to anyone who wants to live a fulfilling, creative life. Check out the full article for more insights and advice on living creatively and embracing your true self. Gremlins, rage on! 🍃🌳

Sharing Truths with Karimah Hassan I remember how timid I felt reaching out to Karimah Hassan to contribute to our Art Series conversation. We had invited Hassan back in 2021, for our International Women’s Day Symposium where she ha…
