Chigwell Swallow Library

Tom Palmer, author of the Football Academy, the Defenders Series and his latest publication, Arctic Star - delighted our Key Stage Two children with a whole day of workshops and book signings for each year group in the Junior School Library.

In celebration of World Book Day 2022, we've been donating books to send to the London Children's Book Project. Along with our Reading Champions, our students are enthusiastically supporting this cause.

Miss White would like to deliver a festive or two message to all you Chigwellians:

1. Check out my Christmas jumper! (from The British Library, for the curious)
2. Tomorrow is your last day to pick up some festive (or not, all you Scrooges!) reading from the library.
3. It's also Miss White's last day at Chigwell tomorrow, and she'd be very sad to go without saying goodbye. Do pop by!

Here's what she has to say to the pupils

"I've had a wonderful- though brief- time getting to know all the pupils here at Chigwell, especially the Year 7s and 8s who we see for their library lessons. I hope the only contagious bug you catch this winter is the reading bug, and that you all continue reading broadly, diversely and adventurously. Most importantly, I hope you're able to find books you love, and that you learn the joy of reading for yourself, not just for your teachers, or your Reading Awards, or to ace a bunch of AR quizzes. As we say in Scotland - lang may yer lum reek! I ken that whit's fur ye'll no go by ye."

What's the best book you've read this year? Come along to the library to fill in a recommendation slip and pop it in the Secret Santa box. Then you can take a recommendation from a classmate from the box!

It's looking merry and bright here in the Swallow Library now that our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers have Christmassed the joint up. Do swing by to see the decorations and grab yourself a cosy read.

Very excited to see that the have dropped their shortlist for this year's awards. We have three out of four of the children's nominees on our shelves for you to check out! Miss White can highly recommend The Midnight Guardians.

On Monday, Year 5-8 enjoyed two exciting and energetic presentations from bestselling author, Chris Bradford. Our Year 5 and 6 pupils got to hear more about Chris's cracking Young Samurai books, whilst our Year 7 and 8 cohorts learned all about what it takes to be a top rate bodyguard. We were delighted to see the signing queue stretching all the way around New Hall! Miss Roberts and Miss White would love to hear your book reviews when you've finished reading all your new books. Thanks once again to Chris for a great day!
