The Portuguese Institute of Statistics confirmed that the country’s GDP grew by 2.6% on a quarterly basis and by 11.9% on an annual basis in the first quarter of 2022. The growth was driven by private consumption and tourism.
At this rate of growth, Portugal experienced the fifth largest economic expansion among the 27 member states in the first quarter of this year. In the comparison on an annual basis, Portugal emerges as the country with the greatest growth (11.9%), followed by Ireland (11.3%) and Slovenia (9.6%).
As regards forecasts for the current year, Portugal’s GDP will grow by 5.4% instead of the 5.8% expected in December last year.

Since joining the EU, Poland has had the need for the construction and modernization of various infrastructures to reach EU standards: from railway, road, motorway and airport infrastructure, to health, urban, etc.
Therefore, as part of the economic and social cohesion policy, with the aim of promoting balanced and sustainable development throughout the Community territory, Poland has received substantial funds from the European Union amounting to 82.5 billion euros for the period 2014-2020, to which were added 32 billion for the CAP.
These funds have helped to further accelerate the country’s development, opening up great possibilities for foreign investors. The recipient sectors of these funds were: infrastructure and the environment, innovation, education, the technological and IT sector, eastern Poland, support for the PA and cohesion policy.

Perù’s government has announced the launch of more than 30 public-private projects worth nearly $9 billion, aimed at boosting the economy hit by violent anti-government protests. The projects, involving road infrastructure, energy and sanitation, are set to start between this year and 2024, according to state investment promotion agency head Jose Salardi, speaking at an event with investors.
“The key is to regain trust,” Salardi said, adding that the government is streamlining processes, standardizing contracts and coordinating with the private sector.

Norway’s extraordinary earnings have raised a lot of criticism, especially from the countries that have suffered the most from the energy crisis and the resulting rise in bills. Some foreign newspapers have even accused the nation led by Jonas Gahr Støre of having profited from the war conflict, especially when it resisted, within the European Union, on the occasion of the approval of the gas price ceiling at 180 euros. Accusations that Norway has strongly rejected, stating that it has never taken advantage of what was happening in Ukraine, but that it has always acted conscientiously. In this regard, part of the profits made (75 billion crowns, equal to 6.8 billion euros) were allocated to military and civilian aid to Ukraine for the five-year period 2023-2027.

Nigeria implements protectionist policies in favor of the weak national industry, through bans on imports and ad valorem duties on various types of goods. Due to widespread corruption, many goods can be found locally albeit at high prices contributing to a substantial increase in inflation.
