With great sadness, we received the news of the passing of our dear friend Magdalena Tomášková.

Many members of our school will remember Magdalena as the enthusiastic and patient leader of our choir Kukačky. For years, she shared her love of music with our children, and many of us can still hear the whole school singing Kocábku náram, náram, náramnou together under her guidance.

We will also remember Magdalena arriving at school events with Daniel and Cara, keen to ensure that Cara remained connected to her Czech roots, language and culture.

Our thoughts are with Daniel, Cara, Magdalena's family and all those who knew and loved her. We will remember Magdalena warmly and with affection.

May she rest in peace. ❤️

(Information about memorial services shared by Daniel and Magdalena's family can be found in the post below.)

This is Daniel posting on Magdalena’s account. It is with great sadness that I share the news that Magdalena passed away in mid-May 2026. Magdalena was a much-loved daughter, sister, partner, mother and friend, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

To celebrate Magdalena's life and bring together the many friends and family members who loved her, we will be holding memorial services in both London and the Czech Republic:

• St Margaret's Church, Putney, London – Saturday 20th June at 10.30am. Friends and family are very welcome to attend. The service will also be live-streamed for those unable to join in person. If you are planning to attend, please register via this link to help us plan for seating and refreshments. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/magdalena-memorial-tickets-1990703547900

• Evangelicky Kostel, Valasske Mezirici, Blahoslavova 430, Czech Republic – Saturday 4th July at 10am. "Pro dotazy informačního a organizačního charakteru za Českou stranu můžete kontaktovat Jan Tomášek

I'm sharing this with the support of Magdalena’s family and on her behalf.
Thank you for your friendship, memories and messages of support. They are a great comfort to us during this difficult time.

Czechoslovak pilots at FONFA centre in New Forest 27/05/2026

On Saturday 23rd May we visited another important Czechoslovak trace in the UK in the beautiful New Forest, where many Czechoslovak RAF pilots flew from during WWII. Squadrons 310, 312 and 313 operated mainly from Ibsley, while 311 Squadron was based at Beaulieu between 1943 and 1944. During the war there were 12 airfields across the New Forest area supporting Allied operations.

We were honoured to visit the Heritage Centre run by the Friends of the New Forest Airfields (FONFA), who opened especially for us for a private viewing and discussion. The centre contains aircraft artefacts, uniforms, models, pilot stories and interactive displays dedicated to the history of the New Forest airfields and all those who served there during WWII.

We were warmly welcomed by current chair Sam Ruddy, past chair Henry Goodall, Paul Moores, who built many of the aircraft models, and other members of the team including Richard Grycz, Corina Ruddy and Lindsay Asquith.

A particularly special moment for the children was meeting Paul Moores, who was eight years old when Czechoslovak pilots flew from the New Forest airfields. He shared his memories of that time and helped bring this history to life in a very personal way.

The children also enjoyed completing activity booklets prepared by Lindsay Asquith, searching the museum for answers and building their own small airplanes afterwards. Thank you also to Corina Ruddy for the wonderful homemade cake.

During our visit we also stopped at the New Forest Airfields Memorial to pay our respects to all those who served.

Thank you to everyone at FONFA for such a warm welcome and for the incredible work you do preserving and sharing this important history with future generations. We highly recommend visiting the Heritage Centre if you are in the area.

More information about the Heritage Centre can be found at www.fonfa.co.uk
