Behind the scenes of making Clifton Wright's papers in Kendall, Lake District at the Paper Foundation .foundation which form the ground for his body of work for Time Spaghetti

Fantastic process of making four unique papers - in Clifton’s words:

"Instead of using plain white paper, I worked with a paper mill (The Paper Foundation) to make 4 hand-made coloured papers, a Titian Blue, a Canaletto Blue, and two Clifton Wright colours, Hot Chocolate Brown and Radioactive Green. All the papers, they have a ripped texture feel to them, that’s wrinkled, stretched, dusty and atmospheric."

The paper coupled with bespoke unglazed and handpainted frames really are to be seen in person, and a really special outcome of Clifton Wright's Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust commission

Up Close on Clifton Wright

Wright’s large-scale drawings consider the relationship between the human figure and architecture. Using oil and soft pastel, he reimagines anatomy, accentuating the scale of limbs, eyes and mouths. Wright is especially drawn to the way that French seventeenth-century painter Nicolas Poussin worked from architectural models. Merging past and present, Wright weaves in contemporary pop culture references ranging from Ghostbusters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spoilt for choice with amazing angles on Time Spaghetti at Dulwich Picture Gallery, fully being enjoyed by audiences visiting

Contucci and Wright’s conversations with the history of art overlap and entangle, dancing back-and-forth through time. Sharing a fascination with detail, yet with distinct styles, both artists present new work influenced by their responses to historic paintings in the Gallery’s Collection, as well as their experiences visiting Rome and Venice.
