How does a nurse's role evolve whilst working in Clinical Research? 🔬🧪
Our very own Shehnaz breaks it down:
"When I started my new role as a Research Nurse, I had basic knowledge of how a research unit works, as I had seen it through the eyes of someone who had little experience of dealing with research at the time when I worked as a Hemodialysis Specialist Nurse."
"As I moved into the role of Clinical Research Nurse, I realised that the area of research is much wider. I learnt how different teams, such as the Clinical Team (fellows and nurses), Project Management Team (admins and project managers), and Laboratory Team, work together on a research project. I learned how local and commercial studies are conducted."
"I started as a beginner, and now I work as a Lead Nurse for various local and commercial studies with large recruitment numbers. Although I always saw myself as quite an organised person, being in research has brushed up my skills in managing activities across different teams, liaising with team members to coordinate study-related tasks. There is a much larger and broader team required to deliver a successful research project, including areas such as Research Pharmacy, wards, vaccine clinics, and laboratories that help us conduct these studies."
"I love working on vaccine and non-vaccine research projects and being part of wider research teams that create meaningful change in people’s lives through impactful research."

Every blood sample has a journey. 🩸
Our Research Nurse, Suruchi Gurung, has put together a poster to explain.
From careful collection and secure transportation to precise laboratory analysis, each step plays a vital role in delivering reliable results. Behind every tube is a commitment to accuracy, quality, and advancing healthcare through science.

We reached out to local GPs with an invitation to take part in a discussion group, designed to gather valuable insights into how we can strengthen our engagement with primary care professionals.
The aim of these conversations is to better understand GPs’ perspectives, preferences, and potential barriers to involvement, so that we can develop more effective and meaningful ways of connecting with them and encouraging their participation in our research initiatives at the SGVI.
