We are excited to announce that applications are now open for our Intermediate Course.
This 2.5-day course is running from Friday 26th - Sunday 28th June 2026 at Woolwich Works!

These sessions are for people with previous experience in physical theatre or dance, or those who have attended our Introductory or Teacher Training workshops who wish to gain a deeper knowledge about the way we work in the rehearsal room.

This training will develop your physical confidence, enabling you to be bold and playful in the way that you create your own work.

Over the structured course, you will explore devising, physicality and collaboration, building on work made and finding meaning through movement created.

Olivier Award winner, Paapa Essiedu took part in our Ignition pilot back in 2008 and we have proudly watched him go stratospheric ever since. He demonstrates beautifully what Ignition is about. Access to the Arts, the empowerment of people’s creativity and a working ethos that is supportive, inclusive and inspiring. He has always appreciated the value of Ignition and arts education and has given his time, insight and perspective when joining us talking to other young people, teachers and aspiring theatre makers.

Ignition engages with young people with little or no previous experience of the arts. This bold and dynamic programme provides a rare opportunity for young people aged 16–24 from underrepresented and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds to discover, develop and showcase their creative potential. We look for people knowing that the talent is out there. We acknowledge that the playing field is not always level and that some hugely talented people might need a help to in considering a meaningful relationship with the Arts viable.

The programme was paused in 2024 owing to lack of funding and a major funding campaign was launched. Sufficient funds were raised to bring Ignition back in 2025 but more funding is needed to secure this vital programme’s long-term future.

Ignition is free for all participants, to remove any financial barriers, making it truly accessible to those who may otherwise not be able to afford it. Ignition works. Ignition makes a difference.

We could not be more proud of Paapa, and of the impact and success Ignition has had in finding and bringing diverse young talent into the industry from areas where others might not be looking.

As Paapa said, it is up to all of us to act to Save Ignition. Visit the link in our comments to find out how you can help.
