What if your discomfort in social settings isn’t anxiety, but underdeveloped social skills?

You might hesitate before starting conversations.
Maybe you worry about interrupting someone.
Maybe you feel unsure about what is expected in different social situations.

These experiences can look like anxiety but often they are signs of gaps in social awareness and that is encouraging, because social skills can be learned. Understanding the distinction is key to finding the right approach for personal growth.

With the right tools, guidance and practice, you can:
-Build genuine confidence
-Strengthen your communication
-Feel more at ease in any environment

You are not behind, you are growing, growth is always possible, there is no time limit.

As parents, teaching children to apologise sincerely is not about getting them to say the word “sorry.” It’s about helping them understand the impact of their words and actions and how it might affects others. It’s also about guiding them toward emotional maturity.

When we pressure children into apologising, we may resolve the issue but miss the opportunity to shape their character. Genuine apologies grow from empathy, reflection and the willingness to make things right.

When children learn to take responsibility for their choices, they build confidence, strengthen relationships with family and friends and develop life long emotional awareness.

Let’s raise children who apologise from understanding, not pressure.

The playground is a classroom without walls. It can be an exciting space where children naturally learn and practice important social skills. Unlike playing alone in the garden at home, the playground creates opportunities for them to interact with others, offering real life opportunities to practice greeting, sharing, patience, and inclusivity with children their age

When consistent good behaviour is encouraged, adults help ensure that playgrounds remain happy and safe spaces for everyone to enjoy. These early habits can shape how children treat others, build friendships and navigate shared spaces as they grow up.

Belonging is: Embracing Who You Are, Where You Are.

Belonging starts with self-acceptance. When you feel secure in who you are, navigating different social settings become less overwhelming. Connecting with people from different backgrounds becomes easier.

You show up with confidence, not because you have all the answers but because you understand the value you bring. You engage in conversations with ease, knowing your perspective is valid and your voice matters.

As you grow more grounded in your identity, something powerful happens: you become more open to embracing the customs, values, and social norms of the world around you.

Belonging is not about loosing yourself. It’s about finding the balance between honouring who you are and respecting the environment you are in.

It was an honour to have been a guest and contributor at the “Inspire Your Confidence Summit.” Thank you for the opportunity.

“People may forget what you said, but they always remember how you made them feel.”

Practising good manners every day in how you speak, listen and show consideration creates a warm, comfortable atmosphere for you and everyone around you. These seemingly small habits often shape the way others experience your presence and character.

Preparing for university admission and interview can feel overwhelming for teenagers and parents. While academic achievements matter, it’s often a young person’s communication skills, confidence, and presentation that leaves the strongest impression.

A parent shared feedback after their 18-year-old son prepared for university interviews with Polished Manners:

“The techniques for interview behaviour were informative and helpful. Allowing an opportunity to practice speaking and communicating was useful.” -Vijay

What stood out most was not just improved interview responses, but the visible shift in how he carried himself. Preparation didn’t simply give him answers, it gave him trust in his own ability.

Preparing your teenager ahead of time can boost self-confidence and settle their nerves.

For parents and guardians who want to equip their teenagers with the tools to navigate social and formal situations with confidence, our Etiquette Training for Teens & Young Adults offers comprehensive practical support.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting and teaching aspects of etiquette to some of the cast of “The Real Housewives of Cheshire.”

We explored the foundations of elegant presence:

✨maintaining good posture
✨how to sit with poise
✨dining etiquette
✨graceful conversation
✨how to handle interruptions with decorum

It was a fun and insightful session that reinforced the fact that good manners never go out of style, they quite often elevate every room we enter.

You can watch the scene on ITV2 and ITVX, Season 19, Episode 3.
