Biomarkers reveal how patients with glaucoma may respond to treatment 15/01/2025

This January for we are highlighting some of the recently published studies from UCL Institute of Ophthalmology on this important topic.

A study published in Nature Medicine last July asked whether mitochondrial function, measured in white blood cells, is lower in people with glaucoma than those without glaucoma and if mitochondrial function is associated with the rate at which glaucoma patients lose vision. Led by researchers at our institute and at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to work in close collaboration with Professor Mariya Moosajee to focus on the development of non-viral approaches, using mRNA and non-viral gene therapy, as potential treatment options for RLBP1-retinopathy.

Today is a special day on our journey to build a new centre for eye care, research, and education. Later today we will mark reaching the highest point of the new building with a topping out ceremony on the site. The centre is due to open in 2027.

Facade panels installed - Oriel 27/11/2024

With the façade being installed, our new centre in Camden is really starting to take shape. The centre will bring clinicians, patients and scientists under one roof for the first time. Patients, staff and sight loss charity partners helped select a façade material with less glare and reflection which can be problematic for people with sight loss. The façade panels are manufactured offsite in the Netherlands and installed as complete ‘unitised’ panels.
