🇲🇽 Today we celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico! 🎉 This date commemorates the bravery and victory of the Mexican army over the French forces in the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. Although not a national holiday in Mexico, it's an occasion to remember the resilience and determination of our ancestors. Join the festivities, parades, and cultural events happening in Puebla and various parts of the country! 🎊 🇲🇽

One of the historical events that unites Mexico and Ireland is the San Patricio Battalion. 🇲🇽❤️🇮🇪

The San Patricio Battalion formed during the Mexican-American War in 1846, initially part of a UK battalion supporting the US. 🤝

Many Irish soldiers recruited by the US (comprised roughly 175-200) grew discontented and deserted to join the Mexican army.

They fought bravely against US forces. The war ended in 1848, leaving a legacy of solidarity among Irish who fought alongside Mexico.
