The meetings are at convenient times and at venues all around the northern part of Barnet.
Barnet U3A (BU3A) set up at the end of 2007 has grown very rapidly and the current membership is now over 1700 members.There are more than 180 groups from which to choose. Costs are low because our activities are organised by our members who freely share their skills and expertise. Once a month we have a general meeting open to all members where we normally have a guest speaker.

The Monthly Meeting yesterday was excellent. Terry Lloyd gave us a great talk on the six weeks leading up to the outbreak of the first World War called “Sleep Walking into the First World War”.
Interestingly in the Q&A many questions related to the parallels with today as tensions between the 'major powers' grow. Terry is very good speaker with a deep knowledge of the topic.
The AGM and Monthly Meeting was hit by the frezing snow ice that prevented large number of members from reaching Ewen Hall. About 100 members braved the treacherous conditions.

Sir Thomas Harris KBE CMG has been Vice Chairman of Standard Chartered Capital Markets Ltd since 2004. He previously served in the British Diplomatic Service where he was the UK’s Director General for Trade and Investment in the USA and British Consul General in New York from 1999 to 2004.

The Monthly Meeting on December 7th will be John Hodgson with a talk. entitled "The Hanseatic League - or the first attempt at a European Union". John is an excellent speaker and this lecture sounds intriguing.
We had three excellent Monthly Meetings. In September Amalia Michaels a Retired Physics Teacher and member of U3A London gave a terrific talk on her hero "James Clerk Maxwell: Scotland's Einstein?". In October Catherine Osborn
gave us an indoctrination to the pleasures and perils of writing your autobiography. Earlier this month we celebrated 10 years of Barnet U3A (with a cake!) and invited several of the founder members to reminisce about the early days of BU3A. Very enjoyable.

U3A London. Stanley will talk about "The Great American Songbook 1920-1950"
The June Monthly Meeting was well attended. The speaker Jonathan Lipitch gave a very interesting talk on Stress and basically how to control it. There was long Q&A at the end.
Excellent talk on the Odysssey at today's monthly meeting. good turn-out for a very specialist subject. The day was partly marred by one of the audience becoming ill and the paramedics had to be called out . She walked out after a short rest so a good outcome
