Phonics Stars promotes 'Learning through Play'
Our sessions are fun, safe, educational and interactive, providing children with the foundations for learning, supporting children to develop their listening skills through games and activities that are full of fun which in turn supports children with school 'readiness' and much more!

Its all about helping children to develop listening skills, support audible and oral development.
Children have opportunities to develop their understanding of sound discrimination by listening to sounds in the environment, or working out the sounds instruments make, making body & mouth sounds, understanding rhythm with rhymes and a love of books.

We encourage children to hear sounds around them, we believe this will progress onto hearing sounds in words, blending and segmenting the words or noises they hear.

You’ll find handmade innovative activities using recycled items that creative and fun. These activties are themed around the sounds of letters, and a focus sound of the week, children and their adults have an opportunity to learn letter shapes and phoneme recognition, pronunciation and formation through visual tracking with dance, as well as developing muscle and motor strength, fine motor skills, pencil grip, hand eye coordination, speaking, listening and communication and lots more, including number work and creative activities.

The range of activities provided offers children aged 2-5, a variety of learning opportunities which link to the EYFS, with ideas for extension & support activities.

Families will receive top tips from Sam Baldwin, Founder of Phonics Stars and activity lead for Phonics Stars Bromley. Sam is enthusiastic and passionate about promoting learning through play and movement, and encourages children to develop a love for learning through exploration, curiosity, storytelling and compassion.

Children have an innate curiosity. They’re eager to explore the world around them, soaking up new information and skills like sponges. When learning is encouraged through play children develop a positive relationship with what they learn and don’t realise they are learning, for they are just having a good time!

With 20 years experience within Early Years and Education, Sam created Phonic Stars to make a difference to children, families and offer experiences to others.

Sam leads all sessions in the BR and CR area. Sam also works closely with the local charity also know as ‘BCFFORUM’ to support Bromley’s charities, organisations & cic businesses, who work closely with children, young people and families in need within the borough of Bromley.

You’ll find sessions held in many local preschools and nurseries, as well as after school sessions at Hawes Down Primary School for Reception and Year One in West Wickham, Kent.

Phonics Stars sessions are nurturing and fun, they promote freedom of choice for children to play and engage independently. You may find some activities differ in classes for activities may vary if tailored around children’s interests.
We enable the environment and make adaptions which flow organically depending on children’s needs and interests.

All children will receive a special kit bag back pack when they join, this will contain a number of items for them to bring to every session. We recommend children wear their t-shirts to protect their clothing and to feel like part of the Phonics Stars groovy gang!

If you have any questions, please contact Sam before proceeding further on [email protected]

I’m sure you all know how sometimes life takes over and gets a little heavy, health problems and worry as well as spinning too many plates can leave you feeling dizzy and there is only so much you can do to stop life from falling down all around you.

A big thank you to every single person who has contacted me. I’ve had so many messages, I send my apologies to those I’ve been unable to reply to. Life has been overwhelming but I’m starting to feel human again and things are starting to balance and be more stable.

I’ll soon be posting more info about the public classes and updates on my Hawes Down Primary after school sessions.

I thank you once again for your love and understanding.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Sam (or as the kids like to say, Phonics Sam 😆)

Don’t you just love this? I think we should all start our day this way 💪⭐️💕

Every morning should start with telling yourself “you are enough” and “you can do anything”! And it doesn’t hurt to sing while you do it. 🎶

This really made me laugh…😂

9 year old: Mum! Mum! Come up here!
Me: No, it’s very late! Why aren’t you asleep?!
9 year old: Because I need to show you something really important!
Me: *begrudgingly goes upstairs* This better be good!
9 year old: It is, look…
