This week at College Evensong we have music for Advent – the time of personal preparation to celebrate the birth of Christ.
We have a feast of reflective music by contemporary composers. We start with ‘Bogoroditse Dyevo’ by Arvo Pärt – based on the Orthodox Prayer to Mary the Mother of God. The Verses and Responses are sung to a setting by Joanna Forbes-L'Estrange and the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are sung to the Truro Service by Gabriel Jackson.
The anthem is Otto Goldschmidt’s song ‘A Tender Shoot’ – a text from Isaiah in the Hebrew Bible.
And there will be a chance for everyone to sing the well-known Advent hymn ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

Wed 6/12/23 at 17:30 in Holy Trinity South Kensington, SW7 2BA.
Wonderful music – calming, meditative and uplifting music.

College Evensong: All Souls, Remembering those we have known who have died 07/11/2023

Our service this week has an All Souls theme. We will remember those we have known and loved who have died. During the service, the Chaplains will remember by name members of the College whose funerals or memorials we have taken or been pastorally involved with.
We are delighted that our service begins with the wonderfully inclusive version of Psalm 23 written by Bobby McFerrin, the American jazz vocalist and composer. McFerrin’s piece is subtitled ‘Dedicated to my mother’ to honour his mother Sara who died in 2019.
Music for the service will also include Verses and Responses by William Byrd, music for the Canticles by Thomas Walmisley, and the anthem ‘Faire is the Heaven’ by Harris. The music for the psalm is composed by Maria Portela, a PhD student at Imperial.
Wed 8th Nov, 17.30 in Holy Trinity Church, SW7 2BA. More details on our website

Advent resouces 30/11/2020

Here are some Advent resources for meditation that I have share with our meditation network. In the Christian Calendar the season of Advent runs through the four weeks before Christmas. It's a time of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The mood of Advent is prayerful, watchful and reflective. There is a quiet theme of judgement from the vulnerable new born child....
