City of London School is one of London's leading academic day schools, with over 900 boys between the ages of 10–18.

We occupy an iconic site, under the dome of St Paul's Cathedral and across the river from the Tate Modern, in the heart of the City of London. Our location enables us to engage with some of the country's top speakers, researchers and analysts, lending freshness and vibrancy to the curriculum. Our Eco-Society hosted its first ever style exchange, a meaningful way for pupils to refresh their wardrobes while helping the environment🌍

Pupils were invited to donate their used clothing, allowing everyone to have the opportunity to browse through donated items, rather than buying new ones, all while encouraging us to think more carefully about the impact of fast fashion on our planet.

A huge thank you to the pupils who brought in donations in a combined effort to reduce waste and mitigate the effects of climate change

Year 8 musicians took a trip to the Barbican last week to watch a concert performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. The concert was a narrated performance of Benjamin Britten’s ‘Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’, featuring performances pieces by recently re-discovered female composers from the 20th century – Louise Farrenc, Florence Price and Grazyna Bacewicz.

The concert ended with a surprise encore – John Williams’ Star Wars Suite! A brilliant way to spend a morning being immersed in what our surroundings have to offer

Lights, camera… action 🎬

We’re so excited to be partnering again with Young Film Academy to create a brand-new pupil film. From script to screen, our pupils are taking the lead - writing, directing and editing their own production while learning from industry professionals along the way.

It’s a brilliant opportunity for collaboration, creativity and pupil voice, with ideas shaped and brought to life entirely by them.

We can’t wait to see their vision on screen. Watch this space.… 👀

Happy Mother’s Day🌼

Earlier this week, a group of pupils from our charity committee spent their morning carefully assembling bunches of beautiful daffodils and preparing gift tags so they would be ready to share with mothers and other special people in our community today.

It was a lovely moment of quiet teamwork and thoughtfulness, as pupils took time to create something simple but meaningful for the people who care for, support and encourage us every day. Thank you to our pupils for putting such care into every bunch, with all proceeds supporting

The U16 Basketball team played a tremendous game last night in the LISBA Play-offs, finishing runners up. After having a hugely successful season, they were victorious over Whitgift School in the semi-finals before succumbing to a very impressive Sevenoaks School in a closely contested final.

We are so proud of their achievements this year and look forward to another successful campaign next year!

Five pupils recently competed in the North London regional finals of STEM Racing UK - an international competition where pupils design, build and race miniature CO₂-powered cars.

Our team, CLS:01, engineered their car using CAD software, tested its aerodynamics in virtual wind tunnels, and manufactured components using CNC routing and 3D printing. Alongside the engineering challenge, they also developed a full team brand identity, secured sponsorship from local businesses, and presented their work to judges.

On race day, cars travelled the 20m track in just 1.2 seconds, making precision engineering essential. Although this was their first entry into the competition and the team narrowly missed out on the podium, they gained invaluable experience and are already looking ahead to future competitions.

👏 Congratulations to the CLS:01 team on an impressive debut!

Our First and Second Form table tennis players recently competed in the Jack Petchey Schools Individual Tournament, taking on a strong field of players from schools across the region.

A huge congratulations to Bolun and Guanghan, who both progressed impressively to the semi-finals, earning well-deserved 3rd place medals.

Ziqi and Youssef also delivered excellent performances, reaching the Last 16 and the quarter-finals respectively. With three players advancing to the quarter-final stage, they have now secured qualification for the Jack Petchey Finals – a fantastic achievement!🏓 Table Tennis England

Just two years after learning to play Bridge at CLS - and co-founding our Bridge Club - Alex has helped England win the Peggy Bayer Trophy in Scotland!

Alex commented:
“The atmosphere was super friendly, and I’ve made some real friends there… it was such a lovely time, and I can’t wait for next year to do it all over again.”

After finishing last at his first major competition, he doubled down, joined the England squad and is now (unofficially) ranked 4th in the country at U21 level! Huge congratulations on an incredible achievement, and an outstanding example of where passion and perseverance can lead.

We are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day today. As a boys’ school, we recognise the vital role that women play in shaping our community - as colleagues, leaders, teachers and role models. We are fortunate to work alongside exceptional female teachers and professional services staff whose expertise, care and ambition have a profound impact on our pupils every day.

We are also really proud of our close partnership with City of London School for Girls. Together, we share a commitment to academic excellence, opportunity, and the belief that young people thrive when they learn within a community built on mutual respect. Through dedicated programmes and events, pupils from both schools work together and learn from each other throughout their school years.

Next week, we are looking forward to hosting a panel of inspiring women in various fields, who will talk to our pupils about their careers and how they got to the top of their game!
