Last week I asked myself if I had bitten off a bit more than I could chew. Not being able to accommodate every child with SEN and support the families that so needed a safe space for their child during the school holidays was tough. It weighs heavy on the heart when we have to inform parents that we were limited in terms of how far our expertise and resources can stretch. Last week my mood was a tad low and admittedly a few tears were shed. The feeling of letting these kids and their families down was a tough pill to swallow….. but we had a couple of weeks remaining and it wasn’t as if I was about to throw the towel in…… Those that know me @akilealexander, know I am way too stubborn for that! lol. So it was a time for us as a team to press on and continue to create memorable school holiday moments for the children we have had the pleasure of working with. And what an amazing team we have ❤️ So let’s introduce you to “LEON” our 6 year old little explorer that loves nothing more than connecting with Mother Nature, admiring the various twigs he can get his hands on… picking his favourite and protecting it all day ❤️. Leon has Autism and with the exception of a word/sound here or there is considered non-verbal. Leon has been with us over the summer at our SEN provision located at @enfieldCc. Mum explained he can struggle with new environments but he appeared to settle in very very quickly and began forming strong bonds and connections with our team. After a few days off with his family, Leon returned. Whilst spending time with one of much loved and experienced SEN team members (Joshua Castiglione) - Josh began asking him about his holiday, probing about what he did. Noticing Leon was trying to say something, Josh began encouraging him by replicating the sounds Leon was making…. After a few moments Leon confidently says “I WENT SWIMMING” 😭😍 After that moment and the ongoing encouragement from our team members (Hanan, Christevie, Angelina, Vessy, Sadiah, Daniela) he continued to repeat words that he was hearing, not many but definitely enough to get noticed. We couldn’t wait to share this with mum Sophia at pickup who was reduced to tears. Whilst having a chat with mum by the car, little Leon says to mum “close door”It was a beautiful moment and emotions ran high. We have looked forward to Leon joining us each day since and was able to capture his clear and concise pronouncing of the word “sweatshirt” so mum could see. Mum has in turn asked for us to share this with you. I have always stood by the “pebble in a lake ripple effect” I’ve always said that the impact of a persons choice ripples out further than the eyes can see and this is what is instilled in our team. So beautiful Leon… we want to thank you. Despite your limited methods of communication you have inspired us and given us the energy and drive to pursue working with as many families as possible. You may be a little man of few words, but you special one have made a difference. We love you ❤️

In the blink of an eye another school holiday is upon us.
During the February Half Term, we have some options for you to consider so that the kiddies are kept occupied.

As always, we will be running both of our Creative Confidence Camps this school holiday.

The first is at
Highlands Village Hall, Winchmore Hill, N21 2JR

The days here are packed with Arts, Crafts, Team Building Games and
Enrichment Activities.
Our core hours are 9am-5pm although we offer the added option of an 8am Early Drop Off and a 6pm Late pick up. We can also provide Lunch & Snacks at your request. Perfect for working families.
Half days bookings are also available.

All what did we get up to this afternoon at
? Dinner this evening once again came with a Mediterranean twist; meatballs and sautéed potatoes baked in the oven with a tomatoe sauce; coupled up with yoghurt, finger loaf bread and a side salad dressed with olive oil and lemon. Topped off with Strawberry Jelly. The highlight however was the unveiling of the Barbie and Ken Clan and their mansion summer house. When akile makes a promise, she keeps it.
