🇬🇧 British Idiom of the Day
✨ “Move the goalposts” ⚽🥅
📖 Meaning:
To unfairly change the rules, requirements, or expectations after someone has already started trying to achieve them.
🗣️ Example:
“I finished all the tasks they asked for, but then they moved the goalposts and demanded even more.”
📚 Origin:
This idiom comes from football, where moving the goalposts would make scoring much harder because the target suddenly changes position. Over time, it became a metaphor for changing conditions unfairly during a process.
This would make an excellent poster: a 3D cartoon character celebrating a goal while someone secretly drags the goalposts farther away. ⚽😲
