Promoting healthy masculinity at AFC Wimbledon Foundation ⚽️🙌

Last month, we worked with the coaches at AFC Wimbledon Foundation to explore ways they can best support the boys they work with in becoming confident, caring and empathetic young men.

We looked at:
✅ Specific issues and pressures boys are facing today
✅ The effect of taking an individual-based approach
✅ The impact of role models

This session was part of a wider project supported by Merton Council.

We're looking for people who young people can trust. Not because they are trying to be cool or act like a friend, but because they show up as real, grounded adults who genuinely care.

Our workshops explore big, emotionally charged topics such as masculinity, equality and violence. Because of this, we need people who can hold a room with warmth, fairness and clear boundaries.

The core qualities we are looking for are:

- Strong values and genuine care about promoting healthy masculinity
- Calm, steady presence
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn
- Cultural awareness

Later this month we’ll be hosting a free webinar for parents and carers of boys and young people of all genders in the London Borough of Merton 💻

The webinar is designed to help parents and carers understand and respond to the messages boys and young people are receiving about masculinity, and to support them in growing into confident, caring and emotionally resilient people.

Led by Voicebox co-founder Fredi Monk Porcel, the webinar will take place from 6-7pm on Zoom.

What does ‘healthy masculinity’ mean to Year 9s in Croydon?

We loved working with the students from Coombe Wood School earlier this year, running our KS3 workshop which explores positive ideas of masculinity. The groups were so switched on, engaged and able to listen to each other, even when they didn’t see eye to eye.

That’s really the sweet spot we try and cherish in our workshops, where the young people feel like they can express something without fear of imminent backlash or judgment. It’s that fear which holds back the honesty and transparency of so many young people, who may well look instead to the internet for a sense of safety and validation.

Our workshops are real-life, real-time spaces for young people to share, challenge and learn. It’s why no two of our workshops ever have the same outcome.

Staff training in action 💪

Last Monday, our co-founder Fredi delivered a staff training session for Social Workers and Youth Justice Services in Harrow. The session, funded by , focused on how masculinity shows up in the lives of boys at risk of harm or involvement in the justice system, and what professionals can do to help.
