🏯Brewery Spotlight: Katsuyama Shuzo🏯

Our spotlight travels to Katsuyama Shuzo, the revered maker of the Katsuyama sake label. Established in 1688 in Miyagi prefecture, Katsuyama was appointed by one of Japan’s most famous military commanders and samurai, Date Masamune, in 1857 to produce sake for the feudal lords of the present-day Sendai Domain.

We will be joined by Euka Isawa, Representative of Katsuyama Shuzo, where we will learn about the history of the brewery and the surrounding area. We will also discuss Katsuyama and Euka’s future projects. We will hold a Q&A at the end of the session, so come and join us for a ride into the past and future of Katsuyama!

Our spotlight highlights Yaoshin Shuzo, the famous maker of Gangi sake. Located in Yamaguchi prefecture, Yaoshin was founded in 1877 along the “gangi”, or stone stairs that run alongside the Imazu River in Iwakuni City.

We will be joined by Yaoshin Shuzo’s President and Managing Director, Hisashige Kobayashi, where we will learn about his philosophy on making honest sake, unique features of the brewery and characteristics of Gangi sake. We will hold a Q&A at the end of the session, so come and dive into the world of Gangi!

Our spotlight is back and brighter than ever with Katoukichibee Shouten as the star. Located in Fukui prefecture, Katoukichibee Shouten has produced top-notch sake since 1860. Many know this brewery as the makers of the award-winning BORN sake.

We will be joined by Katoukichibee Shouten's charismatic 11th Generation President & CEO Atsuhide Kato and System Engineer & Chief Clerk Mr. Hirasawa. During the webinar, we will peek inside the brewery and find out what kind of music is played while their moromi (mash) ferments among other not-so-known facts about how this unique brewery operates. This webinar is a rare treat for both budding BORN sake drinkers and hardcore fans. We will have a Q&A at the end of the session, so come thirsty for answers!
