Yesterday’s House Drama followed the theme of 'Legends Come to Life'. Every year, these major competitions step up a level, and this year is no different. We have had very close to 200 students working for 6 weeks to create some fantastic performances and celebrate the creativity and excellence within the performing arts at KAA. Each house was challenged to create and perform their own original interpretation of one of four legendary stories: Hua Mulan, The Pied Piper, King Arthur, and The Kraken.

Angelou opened the show with their reimagining of the Kraken, using theatricality and puppetry to bring the mythical creature to life. Then came Honeyball with a stylised retelling of Hua Mulan, inspired by the simple yet effective storytelling of traditional Chinese theatre. Franklin brought to life the legend of King Arthur where many a brake knight try and fail to release the sword from the stone, but one unexpected boy proves that a true leader is defined by heart, courage and belief — not strength or status. The final performance was the Pied Piper of Hamelin where Pankhurst explored how folklore changes depending on who is telling the story, shifting between campfire storytelling and dramatic re-enactment to reveal how those who control the narrative can reshape the truth.

The Judges were Erin Martin ( a writer and script editor with over 15 years of experience on projects such as "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "How I Met Your Mother," and "The Walking Dead: World Beyond) and Ryan Graham Hinds (Canadian actor, singer, dancer and writer, who can be seen in a variety of film and television appearances and has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including Broadway World’s Best Cabaret Concert).

After a lot of deliberation, the results were:

1st - Pankhurst - 91 points

2nd - Honeyball - 89 Points

3rd - Angelou - 81 points

4th - Franklin - 78 points
