📚Reading books and telling stories is so important to us at Phonics Stars™️.
💕We love to recommend our favourite story or information books.
🙌It would be great if you could share with us your children’s favourite books too, whether they’re fact or fiction, we love to discover new books to read.
💖So, what is yours or your children’s most popular book to read together?

Something that every parent worries about when their child starts at a new school or nursery....
Will they make friends?
It also seems like something that might feel like is impossible to teach.
🏫 There is no rule book, just lots of different tips that you can work on together.
🏫 Encourage empathy - a great way to do this is with simple turn taking games, for example taking turns to jump in a puddle really helps develop their ability to be considerate.
🏫 Stand back while they solve squabbles independently - I know this is something I find hard to do and what to stop the arguing between my two as quickly as possible. Children need time to work on this after all it is an essential skill for life and is vital part off making and keeping friends.
🏫 Take time to talk everyday - set aside a time of day to talk about things that have happened that day and what they think might happen tomorrow.
🏫 Help children name their feelings - This is a really tricky concept for a child to understand. My children often get hangry (angry because they are hungry). Helping children to verbalise their feelings early on will help them in turn to be able to identify and help other children with their feelings.
🏫 Notice and praise caring behaviour - praise your child and be explicit about what you are praising them for.
🏫 Work out some opening lines together - it can be scary to talk to someone new. Talk about things they would like to be asked about and help them form some opening lines. 'What did you do at the weekend?' I like your bag'
What Top Tips do you have for making new friends?

When our children go to school their name is on everything, from coats, shoes, water bottles, their tray and coat hook.
Children are busy at school and it’s really easy for them to pick up something with a SIMILAR name, maybe it starts with the same letter. Let’s be honest uniform does all looks the same!
Being able to recognise their own name can be done in a number of different ways, many you already have at home!
⭐️ name on their bedroom
⭐️ named cups and bottles
⭐️ books with their name in
⭐️ using magnetic letters on the fridge
It’s equally important that they begin to recognise what is NOT their name and why it’s not their name.
⭐️ sort post it notes with names beginning with the same letter
⭐️ ask questions - how do you know this is your name? Does it have all the same letters? Can you find the names that are not yours.
Another top tip to help your child be as independent as possible when they start school.
