Step back in time with our Year 10 Historians!
Students visited the Old Operating Theatre, Europe’s oldest surviving operating theatre, where the history of medicine and surgery really comes to life. Linking directly to their study of Health and the People, students explored what healthcare was like before anaesthetics and antiseptics. Gaining key insight, and even taking part in a re-enactment, into the realities of early surgery and just how far medicine has come.

Important Medication Reminder for Parents/Carers
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, please take a moment to read our latest guidance on medication in school.

Important Medication Reminder for Parents/Carers This is a reminder that only students who have been prescribed emergency medication (e.g., adrenaline auto-injectors or inhalers) should carry medication with them whilst at school. All other medications brought onto site must be stored securely in the locked cupboard within the medical room.

On Thursday 18th June, a small group of Year 9 students took part in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Multi‑School Outreach Programme, focusing on Life in a Ghetto. As part of the session, students had the powerful opportunity to hear the life story and testimony of Steven Frank.
Steven grew up in Holland and, along with his mother and brothers, was forced into the Terezin Ghetto during the Second World War. Students learned about why and how his family were moved, explored the precious artefacts he has kept from that period, and followed his journey to Britain at the end of the war. The session ended with students asking an incredibly thoughtful range of questions, showing real maturity and curiosity.
This experience offered our students a meaningful and human connection to history - one that deepens understanding far beyond the classroom.

Warm Weather Update for Families
With higher temperatures expected over the next few days, we have shared an important update with parents and carers about temporary uniform adjustments and guidance to help students stay safe and comfortable in the heat.
Students will not be required to wear blazers, ties or jumpers on Friday 19th June, Monday 22nd June, Tuesday 23rd June and Wednesday 24th June, and we’ve included NHS‑based advice on recognising and preventing heat exhaustion.

World Cup Would You Rather? – Form Time Fun
To celebrate the excitement of the World Cup, our school librarian Mrs Hawgood has created a week of football‑themed “Would You Rather?” questions for the whole school to enjoy during form time.
Each day brings a new debate, a new dilemma and plenty of friendly competition across forms. Here’s what students are discussing this week:
1 - Would you rather score the winning goal or make the saving tackle
2 - Would you rather be the best goalkeeper or the best striker
3 - Would you rather win the World Cup or the Champions League
4 - Would you rather get a hat‑trick or three assists
5 - Would you rather win 1–0 or 5–4
It’s a simple way to bring the World Cup buzz into school life - sparking conversations, encouraging teamwork and giving everyone a fun start to the day. Huge thanks to Mrs Hawgood for organising this brilliant activity.
