The Terrific Twos are Artists 2️⃣🌳🎨🖼📝

Shhh… don’t tell our teacher! We are secretly using her computer to tell you about our Art lessons while she is busy helping someone with their glue.

In Art we have been learning about collages and our focus artist is Megan Coyle. We looked carefully at how she layers and overlaps small pieces of paper to create detailed pictures.

We went outside to study the big tree in the junior playground. We noticed the shapes of the branches, the patterns in the bark and the different colours on the leaves. Back in class, we created our own tree collages by tearing, cutting and layering paper in different shades and textures, just like Megan Coyle. We even collected and added real leaves to our artwork to make our collages look more realistic.

The classroom was covered in tiny scraps of paper by the end of the lesson, so we are trying to finish this before teacher comes back and notices we borrowed her computer!

WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT AND STAY SAFE 🟢🗣💚

We want all children to really know and understand that they have the right to speak out and stay safe. Working in conjunction with the NSPCC, we delivered the Speak out, stay safe workshops to children. These workshops encourage children to report worries promptly so they can get the right support.

As always, we had the NSPCC mascot, Buddy, in our classes, reminding us that it is ok to speak about the things that concern us.

The NSPCC provides trusted guidance on keeping children safe, including how to recognise signs that a child may be struggling and what to do if you are concerned. If your child tells you something worrying, stay calm, reassure them that they have done the right thing by speaking up, and share the information with the school or the appropriate safeguarding lead. By working together—parents, carers, and school staff—we can create a safe environment where children feel confident to speak out - and know they will be listened to.

HAVE YOU FOUND A DRAGON? 📝📚📰1️⃣

Year 1 have been working very hard this half term with their focus text George and the Dragon.

The children learnt the story by memory and retold the story using actions to help them remember. They learned to used adjectives in their writing to describe the different characters and helped sequence the story by using time connectives.

The children then turned into little journalists and wrote a newspaper report on the missing mighty dragon. Look at their beautiful writing! If you find the dragon, please let us know!

MINIBEASTS & HABITATS 🐞🐛🦋🐝🌿🌳🌷🌼

Reception had a wonderful opportunity to visit Dacres Wood where they spent the morning learning all about minibeasts and their habitats with Jess. The children discovered lots of fascinating facts, including, ‘all insects are minibeasts, but not all minibeasts are insects!’

They learnt that insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts, while other minibeasts, such as spiders, have 8 legs. They also explored what makes a creature a minibeast and where different creatures like to live and hide.

During the visit, the children listened carefully to a story, enthusiastically joined in with a fun minibeast song ‘Head, Thorax Abdomen’, and worked together brilliantly during a minibeast hunt in the woods. The experience created an opportunity of abundance for the children as they explored nature first-hand and deepened their understanding of the world around them through exciting, practical learning.

We were incredibly impressed with the children’s behaviour throughout the trip, with Jess commenting and praising their excellent behaviour, listening, teamwork and enthusiasm! The children thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the visit and returned to school full of excitement with new knowledge to share!

HOODIES FOR OUR LEAVERS ✨️6️⃣✨️

Our amazing Year 6 children are in their final term of primary school. They are continuing to work hard and realise that the close of one chapter opens the door for many new opportunities.

Part of their transition to year 7 is having and wearing their leavers hoodies. These are worn instead of the St Michael's jumper and marks the beginning of their transition.

Take a look at these amazing young people sporting their new attire!

NURSERY NEWS - SPRING 2 🐣🐤🌸🏵🌷🌱

It was a short half term in Nursery, but we certainly made the most of every moment! The children had enjoyed a variety of fun and engaging activities, including learning about the life cycle of a chick, taking part in Easter-themed arts and crafts, and exploring shadow drawing. We were also busy building friendships and developing our social skills through play and group activities. It had been a joyful and creative few weeks, full of special moments.

SPRING HAD SPRUNG! 🐣🐤🌸🏵🌷🌱

Spring had truly sprung in Reception, and the children had been fascinated by watching our chick eggs hatch into fluffy chicks right before their eyes. This exciting experience helped them understand how new life begins, with chicks symbolising growth, change, and fresh starts.

Inspired by what they observed, the children carefully created their own chicks using playdough, showing 'eggcellent' observational skills and wonderful creativity!

We also linked this experience with the meaning of Easter, learning that it is an important Christian celebration of new life and hope, remembering the resurrection of Jesus. To bring this learning together, the children worked collaboratively to create a beautiful Easter garden, reflecting the story and the signs of spring all around us.

EASTER EUCHARIST 💒✝️🙏🏽🐣

Thank you to all the friends and family who joined us to celebrate our Easter Eucharist, a special service that marks the heart of the Easter story. This service is a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together in prayer, reflect on the message of hope, and share in the joy of the Easter season.

The Eucharist, also called Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is a central Christian service commemorating Jesus's last meal with his disciples. Christians consume consecrated bread and wine, although we only give bread during a school Eucharist, believing they represent or become the body and blood of Jesus, sacrifice for sins, and signify unity with God.

During the Easter Eucharist, children listened and took part in readings and prayers, helping them to understand key Christian themes such as love, sacrifice, and new life. It was wonderful for staff and family to also take part, in whichever way they wished.
