This yearβs musical theatre performance was Little Shop of Horrors, a comedy horror set in 1960s New York. It was a fun and exciting performance including a 6ft tall man-eating plant and 45 pupils across Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Pupils demonstrated outstanding confidence, creativity, compassion and collaboration skills and the live band, backstage crew, costume, props and lighting made for a breath-taking atmosphere. Well done to all our pupils and thank you to our parents for coming to support us. Here are a few highlights πΈ

This week our Year 7 girls went on a bonding trip to Puttshack, in White City. This encouraged our pupils to get to know one another in an informal setting and improve their confidence β³

Last week our Year 7 and 8 pupils went to the Science museum. We saw an eye-opening and spectacular 3D film about life in the Antarctic at the IMAX Ronson Theatre and spent an hour in the fully interactive Wonderlab exploring quirks about how scientific principles interact and can be seen in real life. We also learnt about Engineering, saw real space rockets, and historical medical equipment and engaged in all the science weβve learned across the whole year ππ₯Ό

Sport highlights from Maida Vale School this term π
πββοΈ Well done to Anthony and Ellie for representing Westminster and our community at the London Schools Athletics.
πββοΈ Last week our pupils participated and represented our School in the ISA Sports Athletics. Throughout the competition, each pupil performed to the best of their ability and showed great teamwork and resilience. There were some stand-out performances, Max R (Year 10) came first in his javelin and will go through to represent MVS at the Nationals in Birmingham. Anthony and Devan (Year 9) also ran brilliantly in the 200m and 300m respectively and came 2nd in their track heats. Zeki (Year 9) also ran well and came 3rd in his 100m track heat.
πββοΈ Our U15A and B teams played cricket against fellow Kew House School. Although we did not win we were able to develop our bowling technique and demonstrated great teamwork.

The Victorians believed in light-filled classrooms with high ceilings and large windows and Maida Vale School certainly benefits from this. We have, however, taken the school into the 21st Century and it is fitted out with cutting edge facilities and equipment including:
Multiple science laboratories, music suites, a computing laboratory, theatre, dance studio, fitness studio, food technology room, design technology room and CAD area, restaurant, Parent CafΓ© and library, Astroturf Multi-use pitch, breakout areas and a basketball court. We also make use of our local Tennis courts at Queens Park and Willesden Sports Centre for both indoor and outdoor games.

Last week we held our Mini Classics week and this is what we got up to π€©
πΊ Arlene Holmes-Henderson gave an online Roman workshop where our pupils found out about the remarkable Romans and Ancient Rhetoric.
ποΈ We joined forces with Science and Mathematics to discover the connection between these two subjects and Classics.
πΊWe had a Classics club where our pupils made Classics-inspired arts and crafts.
ποΈ Ms Christou hosted an online parent workshop to introduce our parents to Ancient Greek.
πΊ We finished the week with an assembly to discover the relevance and appeal of Classics in the career world and leant about famous Classicists, with an additional talk from Armand D'Angour, who is a Classics professor at Jesus College, Oxford University to discuss the legacy of the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
Thank you to our guest speakers for educating and inspiring our pupils.

We are proud to announce our first Absolutely Education front cover for Spring 2023. Absolutely Education interviewed our Deputy Head Academic, Nicki Ridley, about Maida Vale School and our much anticipated Sixth Form that is opening this September. Absolutely Education editor says, "Maida Vale is an exciting addition to the London education scene and now, in the second phase of its development, the Sixth Form opens this September. Understandably, this is creating a good deal of excitement among its first student cohort getting ready to step up to MVS Sixth Form life" π°π
