The people we support have had a wonderful week of learning and discovery at Kisharon Langdon.

At Clara House everyone enjoyed welcoming Rabbi Zaiden as he checked the mezuzahs and shared the meaning behind the scroll inside. It was a special moment to take part in putting them up together.

In Good Days we continued exploring Jewish traditions from around the world. We tasted Borek from Turkey, decorated a Hamsa for good fortune and created artwork inspired by Ethiopian prints. Next week brings Babka from Poland which everyone is excited to learn about.

At Maccabi House Art and Craft brought calm moments as we made a dream catcher for sweet and peaceful sleep.

Rounding up the week with a Coffee Evening filled with friendship, music and easy conversation that everyone truly enjoyed.

Wishing our whole community a ‘cool’ and peaceful Shabbat Shalom.

HSBC volunteers spent a rewarding day at Kisharon Langdon, taking part in a range of engaging activities with members and students.

A highlight was an interactive careers session, where volunteers shared their professional expertise through short, one-to-one conversations, helping Kisharon Langdon College students build confidence and explore future opportunities.

The team also joined a ‘Shop - Cook - Eat’ session and a lively Makaton class, creating meaningful connections throughout the day.

This marks the second corporate volunteering day run by Kisharon Langdon, with plans to schedule more in the future.

Ben Berelowitz, Senior Premier Propositions Manager at HSBC reflected on the experience: “Our customers are from all walks of life, and some may need additional support whether due to disability, age, health, or other circumstances.

Spending time with Kisharon Langdon’s members helped us better understand different needs and how we can offer more inclusive support in our day jobs.”

Healthy Eating at Kisharon Langdon!
There has been such a lovely atmosphere at Healthy Eating this week as the people we support created colourful salads with guidance from our volunteer nutritionist Amber.

It has been a chance to learn, chat, work together and enjoy making good food choices.
What’s on your menu this Shabbat?

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and looking forward to seeing you on Sunday at the Maccabi Fun Run.

In this week’s The Schmooze - Voices from the Community in The Jewish Chronicle, Richard Franklin, Chief Executive of Kisharon Langdon, shares an important reminder for Learning Disability Awareness Week:

“We can only empower people when we can see them.”

See Me this Learning Disability Week

This week is about recognising people with learning disabilities for who they truly are. Their lives, their voices and their potential.

Here are some important things to know:

• People with learning disabilities can learn and develop, they may simply need more time, support, or different approaches to do so.

• Support services really do make a difference, with research showing 100% of people surveyed said their life improved with the right support.

• People with learning disabilities are part of every community, and inclusion helps create stronger, more connected societies.

At Kisharon Langdon, we see the whole person.

Individuality, talent and potential.

Let’s keep building a world where everyone is seen, heard and valued.

Awareness leads to understanding and understanding leads to change in building a more inclusive society.

James and the people we support were in their element in the sunshine at Bushey allotment today.

James spent the afternoon pruning and enjoying the calm of being outdoors.

Our partnership with the charity My Yard continues to create wonderful opportunities like this for the people we support.

A sunny day, a meaningful activity and a very happy James!

The way we speak about people matters.

Confusing learning disability with learning difficulty might seem small, but it shapes how people are understood, supported and included.

A learning disability is lifelong and affects how someone learns, understands information and communicates.

A learning difficulty is different and is often linked to a specific area, such as reading or maths.

Getting the language right is not about being perfect.
It is about respect. It is about seeing the whole person.

At Kisharon Langdon, we believe words should reflect dignity, individuality and understanding.
