Soda Glazed Pottery The Maze Hill Pottery was established by Lisa Hammond in 1994 when she developed a range of soda-glazed tableware.
After a trip to Japan, Lisa’s work took a new direction which brought her to the world of Japanese ceramics. As a result, whilst still producing her regular soda-glazed range, Lisa’s body of work now centres around the Tea Ceremony. A couple more photos Tpots and a tan slip store jar ... all Soda glaze fired smaller teapot takes 3 of our medium mugs the larger takes 4 of our medium mugs ... I will post a few of those in the morning

Pouring bowls ... a great standard kitchen essential this was has Hakeme brush marks on the outside and our standard liner on the inside which goes a lovely soft red in the right conditions this and it tan sister will be in the coming shop on monday

Faceted handle Porringer bowl .. we will have a few in our next shop on June 1st at 7pm BST .. we will also have large baking dishes, teapots ,mugs all sizes and a few other functional pots we haven’t put in our shop before ... some which I will post over the next few days ... if you are interested in my one off pots I believe will be putting some of the resent ones we sent them online soon

More jugs ! Made by my current apprentice is really getting to grip with the shape now ... it’s a tricky one getting the valence right ... I usually make the bigger 3.5 lb version of this shape .. I am sure there is one further back in a post . Actually I think there is a video of handling one somewhere .. Clay gotta be good and I have to be in the mood for them .. then they usually go well !

Have been making some very tall jugs tallest is 58 cm trying out different proportions .. need these jugs to put in the big pot firing to help give the firing an even pack .. it was a challenge raw glazing a few of them !

Lichen faceted bottle from early spring firing photo. we haven’t fired the soda kilns since early February ... I’m itching to fire ... we had the new roof done on the pottery the week before the lockdown which meant the roofers took part of the kiln roof down and the cover we had created around the back of the pottery... in order to put the scaffold up ...there wasn’t time to put that back up before the lockdown ... today work started on putting that back thanks to Francis and Darren despite the wind ... another day hopefully next week they can Finnish it and we can at least think about how we can do a firing ...

Today I was doing another zoom demo for students on Tea bowls , throwing and trimming ... we have started recording these lectures and as well as our college studio director and trustees demos we have had some special invited guests .. We are also working with our film maker friends who are editing for us .. so keep an eye on they will be coming soon !!!
