Dear Families,

Following yesterday’s message, we would like to remind you that, with the warmer weather expected to continue into next week, students may leave their blazers at home. All other uniform expectations remain unchanged.

We also encourage students not to bring jumpers and to ensure they bring a refillable (plastic) water bottle so they can stay hydrated throughout the day.

Kind regards,
Mr Savage
Assistant Headteacher

🌈 Pride Month: Creative Activities for Young People

Pride Month is a brilliant opportunity for young people to get creative, learn something new, and celebrate the importance of inclusion and belonging. Here are some simple, fun activities that students can enjoy throughout June:

Pride badge‑making - Create badges using the colours of the Pride flag or messages of kindness and allyship.

Flag‑colour bookmarks - A quick, creative activity that celebrates identity and representation.

“What Pride Means to Me” boards - Invite students to share words, drawings, or reflections about belonging.

Pride‑themed art prompts - From rainbow collages to digital illustrations, creativity is a great way to express identity.

Acts of kindness challenge - Encourage students to complete small, positive actions that help others feel included.

Pride playlist building - Put together an uplifting, age‑appropriate playlist that celebrates confidence and individuality.

These activities help young people explore identity, celebrate diversity, and strengthen the sense of belonging across our school communities.

🌈 Pride Month: Films That Celebrate Identity, Friendship & Belonging

As part of Pride Month, we’re highlighting a selection of young‑person‑friendly films that explore themes of identity, friendship, courage, and belonging. These stories offer gentle, positive representation and can help spark meaningful conversations at home.

Here are some great options for teens and families:

Heartstopper (Netflix) - A joyful, uplifting series about friendship, first love, and finding your people.

Love, Simon - A warm coming‑of‑age story about being true to yourself and navigating school life.

The Half of It - A thoughtful, gentle film about identity, connection, and unexpected friendships.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines - A fun, family‑friendly animated film featuring LGBTQ+ representation in a natural, age‑appropriate way.

Better Nate Than Ever - A feel‑good musical adventure about creativity, confidence, and embracing who you are.

Nimona - A bold, imaginative animated film celebrating difference, acceptance, and chosen family.

These films offer young people positive representation and the reassurance that everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

🌈 Pride Month: The Power of Belonging

Belonging sits at the heart of everything we do across PolyMAT. When young people feel seen, valued, and understood, they are able to learn with confidence, build strong relationships, and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Pride Month is a reminder of how important it is for every student and member of staff to feel that they have a place in our community - a place where they can be themselves without hesitation, and where their identity is recognised and respected.

Belonging isn’t created by a single moment or event. It’s built every day through the language we use, the stories we share, the support we offer, and the way we show up for one another.

This month, we are celebrating the diversity that strengthens our Trust and the inclusive culture that ensures every young person knows they matter.

Environmental Science in Action at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls

As part of our ongoing environmental science work, Miss Ruston and Miss Jolly have been leading by example with a community litter‑picking session on and around our school site. Their efforts support our wider push to help students understand the impact of everyday actions on the environment and to take pride in caring for their local area.

This hands‑on approach forms an important part of our science curriculum, encouraging students to think critically about sustainability, responsibility and the role they play in protecting the world around them.
