Year 5 have been working incredibly hard to develop their comprehension skills in reading.

Through engaging texts and thoughtful discussions, pupils have been practising a range of reading strategies, including retrieval, inference and summarising, helping them to deepen their understanding and become more confident in explaining their ideas.

The Newham Community Learning Summer Showcase hosted by Rokeby School E16 was a truly memorable celebration of talent across our schools, and we are incredibly proud of our pupils who took part.

Portwayโ€™s BSL Club delivered a thought-provoking and inspiring presentation that captivated the audience and showcased both skill and confidence. It was fantastic to see our pupils using their voices in such a powerful and meaningful way.
One of our students also delivered an amazing poem, performed with real poise and impact, which was a real highlight of the event.

A huge thank you to Rokeby for hosting such a brilliant event.

Our young explorers had a wonderful time investigating the bug tray and searching for insects and mini beasts!

They carefully explored soil, leaves and plants, using tools to discover different creatures and learn more about the habitats they live in. Along the way, the children developed their curiosity, observation skills, sensory awareness and fine motor skills through hands on exploration.

It was fantastic to see their excitement as they uncovered the amazing world of mini beasts!

This week, Nursery participated in Sports day. The children did amazingly well and took part in a variety of activities. It was a fun-filled day enjoyed by everyone.

The children were challenged to create a picture using a circle as their starting shape. โญ•
Anshi used a cream lid to draw her first circle before adding more circles and a triangle to develop her artwork. She proudly explained, "I have drawn a snowman. It has a nose, two arms, and a pointed hat. It has three buttons on its belly." โ˜ƒ๏ธ
Through this creative activity, Anshi explored shape recognition, developed her drawing skills and used her imagination to create a detailed and thoughtful picture. We love seeing our children express their ideas so confidently! โœจ๐ŸŽจ

We had a wonderful time planting bean seeds at preschool. He carefully filled his pot with soil, tucked the tiny beans inside, and gave them a little drink of water. He was excited to help his plant grow and loved learning how seeds can turn into tall, green bean plants. We are looking forward to watching his beans sprout and grow!

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฃ๐ŸคŸ A busy week of learning in Year 1! ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿฃ๐ŸŒฑ

In PSHE and Science, Year 1 explored lifecycles and development, learning how living things grow and change over time. The children sequenced lifecycles, identified key physical and developmental changes, and shared their ideas with their classmates, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout.

The children also had a fantastic time celebrating British Sign Language Day. They learnt how to sign familiar words and songs, including Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, while developing their understanding of different ways people communicate. As part of the celebrations, they took part in a range of activities, including learning signs, matching and colouring flags from different countries, and discussing how languages connect people around the world.

It was wonderful to see the children's confidence, curiosity and appreciation for diversity grow through these engaging learning experiences. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒโœจ

In Humanities, Year 4 pupils explored what life was like for city workers during the Industrial Revolution. Using a range of historical images, they examined evidence, discussed what the pictures revealed about working and living conditions, and compared life in the past with life today.

The children considered both the positive and negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of how this period transformed people's lives and shaped the world around us

Year 4 became wildlife explorers during an exciting gardening workshop!

The children discovered fascinating facts about animals, insects and the habitats they call home. Armed with their new knowledge, they headed into the school gardens for a mini beast hunt, carefully collecting creatures to observe up close.

They then sketched and wrote detailed observations about their discoveries before responsibly returning each creature safely to its natural habitat. It was a fantastic hands on learning experience that brought nature to life! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ”

Thank you for another brilliant session! ๐Ÿ’š
