Year 6 had an incredible day out on Friday, visiting the iconic Natural History Museum for the second trip for their Year 6 enrichment programme.

What made the day even more special? It just so happened to be Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, making it the most fitting day imaginable to explore the wonders of the natural world. The pupils delved into the fascinating forces that shape our planet, from thundering volcanoes and earthquakes to the remarkable story of life on Earth.

Of course, no visit to the Natural History Museum would be complete without a stop at the legendary dinosaur exhibition, which was every bit as awe-inspiring as ever.

A truly unforgettable trip for our Year 6 explorers!

Our Year 6 pupils brought their First World War studies vividly to life with a visit to the Imperial War Museum. Exploring the First World War Galleries, they encountered powerful artefacts and stepped inside a replica trench, gaining a deeper understanding of life on the Western Front.

Experiences such as these enrich classroom learning, allowing pupils to engage critically with history, ask meaningful questions, and develop a more nuanced perspective of the past. It was a memorable and thought-provoking day, rounded off with a picnic in the sunshine — a perfect balance of reflection and enjoyment.

We are incredibly proud to see our Year 6 pupils beginning to receive their senior school offers and even more thrilled to celebrate the abundance of scholarships awarded alongside them.

These achievements reflect not only academic excellence and Salcombe’s 11+ Pathway programme, but resilience, ambition and character of our pupils. Each offer represents focused preparation, determination and growth - a true reflection of our ethos: Courage to be Wise, Courage to be Curious and Courage to Succeed.

We now look forward with great anticipation to the final outcomes and to celebrating the full success of this exceptional cohort.

This half term, our Year 5 artists have been thinking like Thiebaud! Inspired by the American artist Wayne Thiebaud, they discovered how everyday treats can become extraordinary art through bold colour, expressive texture, and thoughtful composition.

Bringing this inspiration to life, pupils created vibrant papier-mâché sculptures - transforming simple materials into joyful works of art that reflect imagination, care, and craftsmanship.

A celebration of creativity, curiosity, and the joy of learning through art.
