While the rest of us are glued to the World Cup, a team of our students were busy doing their own bit of football business, pitching to Crystal Palace's senior leadership inside Selhurst Park.

They'd won the University of Greenwich Pledgeball Hackathon by tackling something the whole sport is wrestling with: kit waste. The reward was a seat in front of Palace's Head of HR, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Retail, presenting their solution and picking up career advice from the people who run the club. Stadium tour and lunch to finish.

Lynette Lisk, Generator Programmes Manager at Greenwich, called it "the ultimate prize". She's right. They might be students, but they held that room like consultants.

That's the kind of thing The Generator sets up at Greenwich, and these students made the most of it.

Lucien von Schomberg, our Programme Leader for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has been named one of seven finalists worldwide for the 2026 ICSB Entrepreneurship Educator Excellence Award.

It's a global shortlist, with educators from the US, Brazil, Armenia and the UK. Lucien's been shaping how entrepreneurship is taught at Greenwich for years, so it's great to see him on a list like this.

Winners are announced at the ICSB World Congress in Washington, D.C., at the end of June.

Congratulations, Lucien, very well deserved.

Paris's work impressed a fashion model agency so much that they've asked him to help make some of his ideas happen after he graduates.

The work? A social media strategy he built as part of his marketing degree.

Not bad for a student project.

A hotel on the North Norfolk coast has started handing guests a hand-drawn map and asking them to leave their phones in the room.

It's part of a digital detox project that Wenjie Cai, our Associate Professor in Tourism and Associate Head of the School of Management and Marketing, helped design, in collaboration with Titchwell Manor and researchers at the University of East Anglia.

The maps point people towards the parts of the coast that don't show up on Instagram, the small shops and cafes most visitors would scroll straight past.

Dr Cai's whole point is that putting the phone away isn't really the win in itself; it's how much more you notice and explore when it's gone.

Launched during National Walking Month, which feels about right. Genuinely tempted to give it a go on the next coast trip.

in 2012, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery were a familiar sight around the borough, and this is them in the Grand Square at our Greenwich campus. they’re the unit that fires the royal gun salutes on state occasions. and it’s the same square you’d be crossing to make your 9am.
