At Chestnut Nursery School St Giles, our Willow Room have been having a fantastic time recently celebrating Earth Day! We’ve enjoyed a range of creative craft activities while exploring our garden and learning more about our amazing planet.
We made our own Earth models using playdough and used a variety of materials to decorate paper plates. Along the way, we talked about the blue for water and oceans, and the green for land.
We also spent time exploring the garden, using binoculars and a helpful wooden identification board to spot birds in the sky. We visited our bug hotel and were excited to find a ladybird! We practiced holding it gently and talked about how to care for animals and respect our environment. 🌍

On Saturday at Chestnut Nursery School Taverham, we held a 'Quack and Snack' and had our own Taverham Petting Zoo! It was a wonderful event that over 50 families attended.
Children and their families had the chance to see our ducks that hatched here and see them have their first swim. Children had the opportunity to hold our stick insects too. The children took part in a fact-finding activity and all received a certificate.

Role play in early years encourages children to express themselves and build confidence during play with peers. It’s a special type of play that builds on creating positive relationships and uses working-together skills.

The team at Chestnut Nursery School Cottenham have devised a lovely way to share the joy of books and reading with the children and their families. 📚📖 We have created a community library, that resides in the lobby and is open every evening for children and parents to borrow books of their choosing.
We wanted to create a space where children, families and practitioners could come together to share stories, explore new worlds and bond over the joy of reading. Community libraries not only enrich the learning environment but also strengthen the relationships with families, cultivating positive parent partnership. It has been such a success that we need to add some more books to keep up with the borrowing demand! Happy reading everyone!
