The Representation in Dance Education (RIDE) resource was created by our Decolonising the Dance Curriculum roundtable, who worked together to produce a resource to celebrate global majority dance work in the sector, increase representation and affect positive change in dance education.

Next week, on Friday October 22nd from 10am to 11.30am, we have the third session of our Virtual Masterclass Series. Dollie Henry, Jazz Artist, Choreographer and Educator, is our third workshop leader.

Dollie is also Founder and Artistic Director of the Premier Jazz Theatre Company in the UK – BOP Jazz Theatre Company (BOP) and has led a respected career of 38 years as a performer, choreographer, theatre director, creative Jazz artist and educator. Recognised as one of the most formidable exponents of artistic and creative Jazz dance and theatre dance, both in the UK and Internationally. She has amassed a reputation that is widely revered and respected. Her breadth of work as a performer, creative artist and choreographer, has been vast and varied ranging from - West End Theatre Productions, Theatre Plays, Film, TV to Concert Dance, Jazz Theatre productions and Concert Dance Performances.

Dollie is also a Jazz Lecturer/Practitioner at Trinity Laban Music & Dance Conservatoire, PPA (Guildford) and Mountview Arts London, an Associate Teacher of ISTD and Honorary Member with IDTA. Her other roles as a creative professional include, Patron at The Hammond School and Ignite Dance Company.

As an experienced practitioner, Dollie is instrumental in mentoring the careers of many dancers from student to performers in established dance companies, musical theatre productions and concert dance shows across the world and continues to support the next generation of aspiring jazz dance artists through varied BOP Associate Jazz Dance Artists programs.

What to expect in Dollie’s Jazz Class:
Dollie’s Jazz dance classes offer an open inclusive space for all dancers to develop creatively and artistically, mentally and physically as dancers, staying true to the spirit of Jazz and that of individual expression.
The class provide a Jazz warm-up, through exercises that enhance flexibility, stamina and strength, supported by jazz music to facilitate musicality and timing. This leads to learning a fun and energized Jazz dance combination that explores the creative elements of the dance and performance.
Dollie’s Jazz classes offer an enriching, engaging and energising creative dance experience for, all to be informed, involved and inspired through the art form of the Jazz Dance idiom.

As Dollie says … “You do not have to be a Jazz dancer to do my class, you just have to think like one! Jazz is an expression of individuality and community!”
