Following a series of strategic engagements aimed at strengthening G-SEL’s future direction, G-SEL Network convened a consultancy session with Oaklin Developing Strategies to explore pathways for strengthening its positioning within the UK think tank and policy ecosystem.
The session provided an opportunity to reflect on G-SEL’s growth, assess current strengths, and identify strategic pathways for advancing sustainable energy access, leadership, and development across the Global South.
Discussions covered organisational structure, financial sustainability, partnerships, convening power, and research capacity, alongside broader considerations around G-SEL’s evolving role within the UK policy landscape.
Representing Oaklin were Ben Parsons, Partner; Grant Laten, Partner; and Farheen Khan, Analyst, alongside Lauren McEvatt, Managing Director of Morpeth Consulting.

Earlier this week, we were delighted to meet with Kristina Känd, Senior Employer Engagement Officer at the University of Westminster, as preparations continue for the G-SEL Conference 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss venue options for our flagship conference, as well as spaces for our planned pre-conference events in August and October. We also explored opportunities for collaboration and engagement with the University's sustainability team.
We appreciate Kristina's warm reception, guided tour, and continued support throughout the process.
Representing G-SEL at the meeting were Tony Cullen, Company Secretary; Daniels Aide Okun, Head of Programmes; and Joy Osomiamhe-O, Founding Partner.
We look forward to the next phase of planning and to strengthening partnerships that advance conversations on sustainable energy, leadership, and development.

Energy lies at the heart of sustainable development. ⚡
As Ban Ki-moon once said:
“Energy is the golden thread that connects economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability.”
Access to reliable and sustainable energy enables hospitals to function, schools to thrive, businesses to grow, and communities to unlock opportunities for a better future. Yet, millions of people around the world still live without access to modern energy.
Expanding sustainable energy solutions is therefore not only about powering homes — it is about empowering lives, reducing poverty, and building resilient societies.

Energy access is not a luxury — it is the foundation of opportunity. ⚡
As Birol rightly stated:
“Energy access is not a luxury; it is the foundation of opportunity.”
Reliable and affordable energy powers education, healthcare, businesses, and innovation. Without electricity, hospitals cannot function effectively, students cannot fully access digital learning, and communities struggle to unlock their economic potential.
Across many parts of the world, particularly in developing regions, millions of people still lack reliable access to electricity. Expanding energy access is therefore not just an infrastructure challenge — it is a development priority that directly impacts livelihoods, economic growth, and social progress.
Advancing sustainable energy solutions and accelerating the global energy transition will be key to ensuring that no community is left behind.
Energy access empowers people.
Energy access drives development.
Energy access builds the future.
